My girlfriend's birthday is coming up next week and I wanted to find something for us to do together in NYC. So far I've only found sites advertising tours. I'm not sure what I have in mind but I'm open to anything weird (not craigslist weird) or unordinary.

Doubt she would be into that but thanks.

I guess I should give a quick description of her:

She just graduated college and works as an animator in Brooklyn. She hates conventional art museum but enjoys going to contemporary galleries. The most fun I ever had with her was going to see a giant pig in Massachusetts. I live in Philly, and her favorite thing here was gong to the Mutter museum. She's adventurous and has traveled but wouldn't be into anything scary (never watched a horror movie together). This is her first Birthday we're celebrating together and I wanted to get something unique to NY while she's still living there.

For general interest, I thought people could just mention fun/unusual stuff they've done in NY.

She's mentioned this site before, I don't think many other cities besides NY do this

I guess the other things I had in mind were the Cooper Hewitt Museum, Float Tanks and/or a ferry ride

We did once try going to massage parlor which ended up being a brothel...

This is a pretty unconventional immersive theater thing set at an abandoned hotel. I haven't gone yet, but my friends who have really liked it. It can be hard to get tickets though so I'd start looking now. It's the classic artsy NYC theater thing imo.

E: thinking about it sleep no more is probably perfect for what you want, definitely look into it.

Or instead of a ferry ride, maybe try getting tickets to take a sail on the Pioneer at the South St. Seaport. It's a historic tallship run by volunteers that goes around Manhattan. Or, for a cheaper option, you can go early on a Saturday and they'll teach you to sail it.

If you're in Brooklyn, Smorgasburg is really delicious: http://www.smorgasburg.com/

Also, the Museum of the Moving Image in Queens is supposed to be good, http://www.movingimage.us/, working off of the whole "she's an animator" thing.

If neither of you have been, the Highline in Chelsea is a really cool park built into abandoned railroad tracks, that's pretty and happens to be near the Pace Gallery that has some good exhibits.

There's always going to be weird warehouse parties in Brooklyn I guess if you're into that...
