I'd say that you are probably putting too much detail into sketching and the colour sketch. You can work a lot faster if you keep sketching very simple and move straight into inking and colouring, fixing as you go. I had a go at trying to do that picture as quickly as I can and this is what I ended up with:

Total time = 90 minutes.

Obviously my linework and design is much simpler, there's no background, and I had your thing to look at (though I tried to avoid looking too much....) But I do think the benefit of working digitally is that you can put in a more messy preliminary work and fix it afterwards, and this can be much faster.

Ideally with this I'd leave it overnight and come back to it with fresh eyes in the morning.

Very flattering to have a drawing of mine redrawn unconditionally like that.

I would like to keep my early sketches simple but it's so ingrained in me now to do the exact opposite. I'm very curious what the process looks like for someone with a very lineart-heavy style.

Like yours, for example! Unless it really does take an eternity.

Also.

This is shaping up to be my favorite one of these.

And it's a guy who's gotten his rear end kicked.

Not because he's bad or anything. He's probably just outnumbered. And there's at least one ninja.

Ah I would if the streaming programs didn't cause such an input lag in the program itself. Like I'll put the pen down and the beginning of it will drag straight for a millisecond and it's really really obnoxious.

In other news, this!:

Yeah in the sketch phase things that should have thinner lines will have thicker ones. But as long as I get the gist of the shapes in that meantime.

And now I'm juggling two pieces!

Scribblehatch

This one didn't turn out as intended after the sketch phase. There was a way of coloring it I had in my head that I couldn't bring to hand.

But I still like it. Just, argh tho.

There wasn't so much a rule as me being afraid of adding too many layers to an already bulky file that was lagging my tits off.

That's my tactic with color because I never have a palette in mind going in. I keep everything seperate so I can adjust them all later. And aside from the lag it seems to work.

But I envy the gently caress out of people able to do it all on just 7 layers or so.

How tough/expensive is it to upgrade that sorta thing for this purpose?

I think if there's anything you might consider there to be an issue with, just leave a link to it without the image popping up (with a warning) and it should be fine.

No one can complain after that, I don't think.

I got the impression that all the tan-colored parts were soft padding. Until I saw the headpieces and realized it was just a coincidence.

If something is uninteresting to you, that should be enough. Just say that. That's damning enough as it is. You don't need the moral crusade to temper your argument.

Jesus.

There's this wonderful South Park two-parter where Cartman wants to get Family Guy cancelled for insulting islam, but his real beef is with all the cutaway gags with no setup or payoff. And that second thing should BE ENOUGH of a criticism.
