The only way Sanders gets over the hump is if somehow miraculously the youth vote shows up. Anyone interested in getting him elected better spend a lot of time imploring college students and other people under 25 to get their rear end to the polls. Clinton holds way too many of the old guard democratic institutions in her pocket right now. The only way to counter that is to change the demographics of the party itself by engaging the youth.

clinton is also winning under 18-29 year olds so good luck with that. she polls better with them than old people.

im very confused on how/why the UC system is allowed to donate to politicians let alone anybody

they aren't. the site is opensecrets and it records donations by the person's listed employer. that's why goldman sachs might be a top contributor to both mitt romney and barack obama - the employees themselves split on who they were donating to.

i have a lot of interest in policy and legislation. i also really like bernie sanders. however, bernie sanders will not be president of the united states. posters may safely post in this thread knowing that their posting contribution to bernie will not come at the expense of our historic next president, hillary clinton.

they are cool people but i have no faith in Hillary to nominate anyone who isn't explicitly pro corp/bank/dereg

she will nominate liberals because the calculus is fairly simple. liberal justices will not overturn her policies, conservatives will. and centrists tend to drift over time so there's essentially no benefit to doing anything other than nominating the most liberal person you can get away with.

i don't think her policies will be very liberal at all, Concerned Citizen!

doesn't matter. there's no constitutional basis to overturn almost any deregulation, so appointing a conservative/moderate gains her nothing even if they agree with her. but she still supports numerous government programs that are threatened by conservative justices, so she will always want the most liberal justice possible to protect those.

basically game theory would suggest that there is no reason for a democrat to ever appoint a moderate

to clarify, this is not entirely accurate. while there is generally no constitutional grounds to overturn deregulation, beyond extremely technical issues such as federalism concerns, there are often grounds to overturn it under administrative law (which is the constitutional law equivalent of the regulatory state) when justices feel like it.

i was thinking more along the lines of GLBA than executive action, but yes that's true.

Why would you contribute money without attending an event and networking? It makes no sense to me. Like, I understand the need for individuals who give money when you coldcall them, still, at least get some campaign schwag out of it.

And what the gently caress are ActBlue's "federal tips"? Is that their new way of fleecing out a 10% commish instead of the 3.5 w/quarterly $2500-$5000 cost?

Arg, ActBlue! If only you'd been consumed by NGP rather than VAN!!!

1. Because you want to donate and support the campaign? It's not really that hard.

2. Campaigns pay a % fee to cover transaction costs. Tips are optionally added by the user.

3. VAN acquired NGP. ActBlue isn't owned by anyone.

edit: for toxx purposes. i donated the max because lol
