i like bill maher's show because I like the guests and the discussions they have I'm on the fence about Bill Maher himself because every time I start to like him he spouts of with some ridiculously dumb poo poo like being anti-vaccinations which turns me off. Although he seems amenable to discussion instead of just ignoring everything in favor of repeating his talking points over and over so that's not such a big deal.

Raskolnikov38 posted:well i mean they seem to be raising tuition every other week, i'd rather they lower tuition rates than donate to political campaigns I was going to a UC when they raised the tuition 30% and everyone was freaking out about it. That same week UCLA got 15 brand new flat screen TVs for 1 of their multiple cafeterias with super high quality food (like there's professional chefs working there, not students). I was upset; doubly so when my friend that went to UCLA laughed and said 'bro those things aren't even on most of the time and when they are they just have a slideshow of UCLA pictures.' gently caress the UC Regents. They only hiked tuition rates so they would have extra investing money. I forget the details but one of my profs posted like a 10 page indictment on his door and it was pretty ridiculous. They give money to the high profile schools like UCLA and UC Berkeley and to a lesser extent UCSD and the other schools just get the shaft with increased tuition and nothing to show for it. I like that the narrative in this country is so skewed to the right that advocating for economic policies the GOP would have agreed with in 1970 is now full blown socialism. Like oh we should pay our workers fairly and prosecute corporate fraud and close tax loopholes and raise taxes on the rich to rates that are more in line with national historic averages and invest in our national infrastructure? "What's that a candidate talking about real poo poo and not just gay bashing as an excuse for their oligarchic economic policy?" I hope he kicks the poo poo out of Hillary in the Primary then offers her the vice presidency. I think a Sanders/Clinton ticket would crush whatever pair of psychos end up running on the GOP ticket.

What the media is doing, and has done successfully for like 80 years, is slander socialism itself as some awful un-american thing that strips your freedoms and literally enslaves you, or something He might be a socialist but the policy he is advocating is not socialist policy. He's not talking about nationalizing industries, he's not talking about wealth redistribution. He's talking about sane tax codes, ending corporate welfare, ending big money influence on politics, and creating real GOOD jobs for Americans (as opposed to a bunch of minimum wage seasonal McJobs). It's policy the GOP would have been on board with 30-40 years ago. What's socialist about saying our infrastructure is crumbling and falling behind? It's just truth. All I know is I heard Hillary say 'this was a great victory for freedom of speech' RE the Citizens United decision and I'm never loving voting for that mentality ever. Companies giving unlimited amounts of money to political campaigns because they are people and their money constitutes speech has to be one of the most hosed up Supreme Court decisions ever.
