Sundays at 10:30PM on HBOWikipedia posted:Veep is an HBO television comedy series, starring Julia Louis-Dreyfus, set in the office of Selina Meyer, a fictional Vice President, and subsequent President, of the United States. The series is a spin-off set in the same universe as The Thick of It also created by Armando Iannucci. He also created the Academy Award-nominated film In the Loop (2009), which starred several Veep cast members alongside several Thick of It cast members. Also starring Anna Chlumsky, Tony Hale, Matt Walsh, Gary Cole, Reid Scott, Timothy Simons, Kevin Dunn and Sufe Bradshaw. You know the deal, zillions of awards and accolades, all deserved. Political satire. This will be Armando Iannucci's (The Thick of it, I'm Alan Partrdige, In The Loop) last season as showrunner. He will be replaced by David Mandel of Curb Your Enthusiasm fame for the already confirmed fifth season of Veep.

I actually dropped Veep somewhere mid-way through the second season because it was just too realistic and painful to watch; picked it back up with the premier of the fourth season and could not stop laughing. Selina and her team finally getting all the power they want and continuing to completely gently caress it all up because they remain, at their core, utterly incompetent, is the kind of biting satire I adore. West Wing has nothing on this.

It was the funniest and worst thing at the same time.

For the record, I'm totally fine if the rest of this thread is just quotes. So you like having sex and you like to travel? Well then you can ~gently caress off~

It is my duty to inform you that there is a small army of Jonah Ryans in Washington DC who seem to honestly believe that they are the living reincarnation of characters from The West Wing. This does not make for a very healthy dating scene. EDIT: Needs more actual Jonah. Combed Thunderclap fucked around with this message at 02:08 on Apr 16, 2015 |

Selina's speech fuckup really was a Mike/Selina problem there. I'm kind of hoping Selina is a bit nicer to the new Veep.... It won't happen.

I've said it before but I badly need the cast of House of Cards to do a sketch where they talk like the people in VEEP, and vice versa.

The Democratic party presidential primary of that state. The political parties of each state run their own mini election to decide which presidential candidate is going to be nominated by that state at the national Party convention. Selina lost that, and so doesnt have the support of that state going into the Democratic convention.

The first episode was meh but this episode was great. There was also a really meta joke when Jonah was in the office and complimenting it, basically quoting "How to Win Friends & Influence People which is like, the absolute perfect Jonah book. I love it.

It's funny how when Selina talked poo poo about her daughter this episode I thought it was funny and went "haha, she's a horrible mom" but as soon as she started tearing into Gary I was like OH NO STOP THIS RIGHT NOW YOU'LL DESTROY HIM. And then he actually stood up for himself! That was even better than the two of them going nuts in a random bathroom last season. Also Jonah actually getting a flunky who thinks he's the coolest guy in the West Wing is gonna lead to great things.

Clamknuckle posted:Wasn't Labor day when she thought she was pregnant and Gary did something with garbage to get her pregnancy test? I don't think so, I thought the scene was supposed to be implying that her and Gary hooked up on Labor Day or something. There was a scene in season 2 or 3 where she was drunk and almost made out on him. Solid episode, if not the funniest. I think they're just ramping these plotlines up, I can't wait to see how Jonah and Patton Oswalt's plot explodes. Jonah obviously thinks Oswalt is gay for him and Jonah being Jonah, that will blow up spectacularly because I'm like 99% sure he (Patton's character) isn't gay.

I guess after the Kent/Sue hooking up my mind is willing to accept that any given two people on the show could hook up. And can we get some love for the new intro? I hope that, somehow, for season 5 she is back to being the titular Veep, or that they change the show's name to "Pee".
