Individual human animals get disconnected from this because it doesn't jibe with our regular perception and decision making. We've come a long way from the 1700's but that doesn't mean we can only go up. Individuals love to make themselves more important than others and to perpetuate antagonistic social constructs.

Why is it always about class? Intersectionality  Biology encompasses all motivations for individuals, the state (in any form) manifests the collective will and freedom that humans possess. The core issues of politics are distribution of limited resources and deciding who lives and who dies. Having a market of democratized resources is nice, but things can be done better. War and the death penalty are perennial sources of controversy.
