i don't. i use Xcode. it allows me to do everything that seems necessary, including build phases to call up a bash command to edit other files if needed. everything makes sense in Apple's code editor for the modern age

i don't know anyone who uses just vi (nvi on most linuxes). it's kind of a evolutionary dead-end, unchanged since UNIX

the difference to me at least between emacs and vim is emacs is a very personalized programming tool down to the key commands. with vim, even if you go to someone else's computer and use it, it works all the same. it's a preference that both make sense that cannot be mixed together

vim is great if you're a CJ and only need a single file open at any given time

otherwise it's a very nice text editor but anyone who brags about how small their Vim RC is while also being a programmer is not a productive programmer. well, probably.
