chicken fried steak is the best meal to prepare for a whole room of southerners because you can cook a billion of them at a time, conveyor belt-style. you don't even have to clean the skillet once you're done; just make gravy instead.

my state's official meal (I know) is "fried okra, squash, cornbread, barbecue pork, biscuits, sausage and gravy, grits, corn, strawberries, chicken fried steak, pecan pie, and black-eyed peas".
