That's right, a new NCAA 14 dynasty after almost 2 years and EA shenanigans!

So the EA servers have been working perfectly now going on 2 weeks! We lost a lot of people from the SEC dynasty (which will continue running) because of the EA server issues and also some people are not keen about having to work with the coach XP bug if they joined after the start. So I created this dynasty in a drunken stupor the other night after I'd been considering it for a while (and got some of the people who left the SEC dynasty that said they'd be willing to join a fresh dynasty to not have to deal with the XP bug and/or their neglecting their team because of EA).

The dynasty's actual name is "LastChanceYo", but I like DrunkDynasty and wish I could change it but will continue to use the unofficial name cause I created it while drunk and I am from Louisiana to boot.

The basics -

1) This is not a single-conference dynasty. We're limiting it to 4 players per conference though, but you are not required to join any particular conference. If you want to play as a 1* team, or in a conference on your own, that's fine. OOC schedules will match you up against other users. If you choose a team that is most definitely not a powerhouse, scheduling will be set up so you don't end up getting crushed multiple times by other users. If you pick a team that would absolutely not have any user games with the default schedule, you will at least be given 2 user games depending on how strong your team is. If you want to have a light user game schedule, don't pick a 4* or greater team for sure. We'll handle this case-by-case, but I don't think we'll have to worry much about it.

2) CPU game restarts are fine so that we can try to have user CCGs and bowl games, but just get them done ASAP if possible. You can restart as many times as you need to, but please don't do this just to pad stats or to get rid of a minor injury suffered during the game. (if it's a multi-game injury, and since this is possibly our last "new" dynasty, I want it to be as fun as possible, so if you have a giant disparity in ratings between your injured player and his backup, that's fine - I trust you guys to play fair and make the right calls)

3) Games against AP'd users are NOT CPU games. Everything stated in #2 does not apply if you end up having to play a user who is temporarily on AP. If you're not sure if it's temporary, just ask - if someone is going to be AP for the rest of the season, I would consider them a CPU opponent.

4) Difficulty: All American vs CPU, All American vs Users / 6 Minute Quarters / No Recruiting Boosters / Ice the Kicker is On / Homefield Advantage is On / Coaches Start at Level 20

5) If someone is playing like a dick against you, bring it up. If it's becoming a pattern where any particular user is getting complaints, we will handle it and hopefully not lose a player due to it. Not all players in the dynasty are goons. Although most of the non-goons are people we've played against, there may be a few new people, and it's possible they have bad habits and hopefully won't throw a fit if I have to give them a talking-to.

Awesome, glad you're joining!

Is there any way to convince you to join up in the GroupMe room? It's got a phone app if you're into that, or just the web interface. If you go the phone route, just be prepared for times when people may be chatting a lot - if you have notifications turned on, you might decide to kill the app - but you can turn that poo poo off so don't let it dissuade you. But you can get phone notifications from direct messages (so if someone is trying to schedule with you, they might DM you) if you turn the room notifications off.

It will definitely help you schedule with the non-goons - and us goons, too, even. It would really be helpful if you could give it a try. I know you don't seem to mind so much when weeks get advanced on you, but we should have (and you especially being the only Pac12'er so far) fewer user games so I don't want to have to AP you against anyone (for their sake more than yours if I'm being honest!).

Or if there is some other way you can suggest that I can get your attention when you've got a user game and/or you're the last one to play, just let me know and I'd be happy to be the middle-man.

Okay, just waiting on you (you didn't join last night :saddowns:) and then to find out if ZSB is joining, before I extend an invite to one more person.

Was hoping the guy playing Mizzou wasn't going MIA for so long, I thought he would have been a lock to join, but if we are pretty much ready to go this weekend, at least if he joins later he'll start at level 20.

Going to ask one other person I hadn't asked yet once we've got our goons locked in, then any open spots will go to the two guys on GroupMe who said they'd like to join at the start to avoid the XP bug but may be on AP for a few weeks (past school stuff) - or they may not play at all, but they'll just get kicked if we find someone else who wants to join if they're taking up all the slots.

edit - Current line-up of players. Forgot I had invited Jes, he runs the only other non-goon dynasty I'm still in. He's in the GroupMe room now.

Expecting at least 1 more player who has said he is going with a small school like Utah State or Colorado State, so he won't mess with my scheduling. There are 2 other pending invites out there, which would put us to a full 12 player roster, but I'm not expecting much. Maybe if we wait til Sunday. We'll all make a decision on when to begin very soon!

WEEK 1

#6 Michigan St (cletus42o) vs Florida (Dio) - Chick-fil-A Kickoff
#14 LSU (JB) @ #15 Clemson (Tyler/GM) - Cowboy's Kickoff

#23 Boise St (Nick/GM) @ Michigan (CPU)
Nebraska (Adam/GM) vs #4 Baylor (CPU)

Oregon, South Carolina, UNC, and Minnesota have first week byes (sorry, but you'll thank me later in the season).

Link to full schedules:
http://i.imgur.com/eBmD3cS.png

Tried to make it as fair as possible, though Boise St may have too easy of a road - but if he can get through Florida and UNC (his two user games), that'd be a feat even though he's one of the few ranked teams - not much to gain winning against his conference opponents, but we'll see. I'm possibly going to stick him in the Pac12 next season with Wreckus.

I know Dio and I will try to get our game done this weekend if possible, but Tyler is going to be out of town through Memorial Day. Forgot to check if anyone would be out of town for the long weekend, but I did start the dynasty sooner than I originally thought.

edit - Also, realignment for the Big10 is definitely happening for next season. Didn't realize all 3 of us in it were in the "Legends" division. Schedules next season will be a lot easier to put together.

#6 Mich St over Florida, 45-24.

Unfortunately for Dio, the Michigan St defense was playing like I couldn't believe, getting 5 picks in the game and just covering his receivers like crazy. And the Florida receivers weren't helping out too much, couple of bad drops.

First quarter was a snoozefest with no points at all, then we each scored a FG starting the 2nd quarter. But after that, Mich St had a KR TD, a pick, a 38 yard screen pass TD, another pick, a 10 yard TD, and then another TD with 3 seconds left in the half - game was 31-10 to start the 2nd half.

Mich St let up on the gas in the 2nd half until Florida scored 2 TDs in the 4th quarter, and then made a bit of a ridiculous 40 yard TD pass to put the final seal on the game with 1:35 left in the game.

Looking forward to trying this team out against JB next week.

In other dynasty news, Nebraska won 31-28 over #4 Baylor, and #23 Boise St took down Michigan 38-10. We're waiting on JB/Tyler (LSU/Clemson) now, little bit of scheduling issues but hopefully that game will get played soon.

I'm out of town in San Antonio all weekend for a wedding, so if they can play this week I can advance it before I leave (6:30am flight on Friday - ouch).

Dubious, I know Crowe is getting married very soon, so you're just going to have to check with him in GroupMe and hope you catch him at a time he can play.

Lemme know if anyone has any scheduling issues. This first advance took way too long so I really don't want to stretch it out and potentially lose people who we don't already think might be taking sims (Tyler, and then Crowe is going to definitely be spotty pre- and post-wedding, but will hopefully be more regular after that's all done).

Yeah, things aren't starting off as well as I'd have hoped (starting the dynasty on a holiday weekend and then me going gone for the wedding weekend right after), but the main thing is at least the guys who are already having to take APs don't have the XP bug and ideally that means they're not going to be giving up on the dynasty. They just won't have a great first season. But we all started at level 20 and I put XP progression to slow (since I didn't want either powerhouse teams OR low-tier teams with easy-to-beat school records to shoot ahead with the 3rd+ tier coach upgrades).. so hopefully we're not just going to twiddle down to goons again like in the SEC.

UNC is on AP. He said with his wedding (this weekend), he can't play until Tuesday at the earliest.

I know the Nick/Dio game fell through too, not sure if Dio played him AP'd or not. If you guys want to try to wait in the interest of playing these user games, just give your thoughts here or in GroupMe. I'm fine with waiting but I'm also fine with moving forward.

Hey Wreckus, Tyler is going out of town Sunday, so look for him.

He never shows up in my friends list as online, but if you log in to the game and load up the dynasty, I think it would show a green box next to him if he's online. So try that before you jump into one of your other games. I'm going to see if he knows a time he'll be online tonight or tomorrow night. (he's usually online past 9-10pm Eastern though if you can just check on your own occasionally) He'll look for you too, he said he added you, but I'm pretty sure I saw you online last night so I dunno if y'all just missed each other or if he mistyped your GT.

Dubious, go ahead and play your game. Sorry that it's against the CPU, but your opponent has the best reason for being on AP at least (wedding is today).

Florida/Boise and Oregon/Clemson are going to the sim gods. Dio already said to just sim their game since Boise is away, and Clemson was looking for Oregon the last nights with no luck (though did see that you added him as a friend, Wreckus). So I think that one should go to a sim as well since it appears both parties made an attempt.

Well, Wreckus wrecked me in the Rose Bowl after probably being simmed/AP'd the first half of the season, and JB let the NCG go to a sim (when an AP was on the table!) and ended up losing out by a single TD.

This definitely is the Drunk Dynasty.

PLAYERS LEAVING

We advanced last night but it was late and we have a decent amount of people playing, so going to plan on an advance tomorrow (Friday) night. Let me know as you ready up though and perhaps we can advance sooner. Most phases after are going to be straight up 24 hour advances unless anyone needs a pause.

I'm going to consider this first season a test run season, we had 3 people in one division, a couple people solo in divisions, and then with JB getting screwed (because it wasn't his fault that the game couldn't get played and I think he was winning the game up until a disconnect).. So we're basically going to go with "Season One Winner - CPU".

I will be realigning. Please everyone who has more experience, don't let me miss the phase.

Everyone will be set to be cross-division rivals if I can make that work, don't see any reason why that won't. I know this poo poo wouldn't make sense in real life, but let me know if this sounds like it would be better than what we already had.

Nebraska (Adam/GM) <-> Texas (Pacey/GM) = Big10 1/2 Rivals
Boise St (Nick/GM) = Big10, one of the divisions, but no rival

Clemson (Tyler/GM) <-> Oregon (Wreckus) = ACC Div1/2 Rivals
South Carolina (Jes/GM) <-> North Carolina (Crowe/GM) = ACC Div 1/2 Rivals

LSU (JB) <-> Florida (Dio) = SEC East/West Rivals
Mich St (cletus42o) <-> Minnesota (Dubious) = SEC East/West Rivals

This groups most of the goons in the SEC. Someone had to be left out, so Wreckus, I choo-choo-chose you to be Tyler's rival.

JB, your input I'll take the most, since you just got screwed. Do you think swapping Clemson and Minnesota (meaning Clemson to SEC, Minnesota to ACC) would be better? I can see that being better just because it'll put Tyler through more of a gauntlet of people we know who will be available to play him and I see him possibly getting to play more AP'd opponents with the setup above. Happy to swap Tyler with me, too, so Dub would get to stay in the SEC (as Minnesota LOLOL).

Or, if this just doesn't make sense at all, please. Guide me. :)

John Brown posted:

To your point, Wreckus will not play Tyler or anyone else who's not in the thread because he makes no effort whatsoever to join the GM chat. With Tyler, are you hoping to give him more games, or less because of his recent connections issues?
Well, I know he WANTS user games and probably wouldn't even play if he only had one or two user games per season. I know I've played more than a few games against him over the last year without issue, so I'm thinking he's having a temporary issue (and if it continues, theoretically it will be showing up in other dynasties/Madden leagues I'm in with him, and he'll be forced to try to figure it out - I'm in another non-goon dynasty with him and a Madden 25 league, and I think he bought the One/M16 combo so I'm sure I'll be in a league with him there too).

The problem I was trying to figure out is that in the ACC, we've got too many people that we can't rely on to play, so I thought swapping either me or Dubious for Tyler would mean he probably wouldn't get any AP'd opponents. (and if he has connection issues, he IS going on AP) I didn't want to give him a cakewalk to the NCG, especially if the end result is going to be a game that can't be played because of connection issues. I figure him having to play either me or Dub every season + you and/or Dio in the regular season + one of you in the CCG gives him the gauntlet I think he would want anyway AND like I said if he has connection issues, we won't be going to any sims. (poo poo, when I first joined with y'all, I had tons of connection problems, and I'd usually tell y'all to "Continue Against CPU" or play me AP'd - actually now that I say that, I can't remember the last time I've even seen the "Continue Against CPU" option)

The OOC games would still work fine I think. If me or Dub goes to ACC, we'll definitely get OOC games against goons in the SEC (though I hate doing multiple OOC games for one team against one conference, but if I move to the ACC, I'd probably schedule OOC against you and Dio/Dub, and then one against a Big10 user team). I feel like we'd have potentially a LOT of user games for a dynasty split between 3 conferences, but I could be wrong. I know opposing division users won't play every season but there's at least the CCG opportunity, and I think we have enough reliable players to make sure we're all getting a fair number of user games.

I'll send a link to these posts to ZSB though and I'm sure he'd reply here in the thread if he has a good idea or any red flags I should be aware of.

Guess for ZSB's reference just to point out potentially tough-to-schedule (or play) users:

Boise St - he has been playing but I can't recall if he had any user games last season since he was all alone in his conference. (but maybe I had given him LSU/JB just to make sure he had one tough game?) I know he just said he can't even login in to the dynasty, and for whatever reason he seems to have dropped playing in the SEC where he was doing really well.

Oregon - Sorry Wreckus, you are hard to schedule with, but we love you anyway.

North Carolina - Crowe is more interested in Madden, I can get him to play games against me for sure because we chat a lot in GM (so good reason possibly for moving me to ACC and maybe make him my cross-division rival, though South Carolina/North Carolina just feels right), but for anyone else (including CPU games) it's probably around a 10% chance.

Texas - Kind of unknown, he joined late but has been playing and seems to play on time, but I don't think he had any user games at all. I played with him in a previous dynasty but think I only played him once and he had to go AP another time. (but I think he was on vacation)

Clemson - Currently having connection issues (at least for sure with JB, though I've had issues recently too in Madden with him), though he is also a little tough to schedule with for at least some of us because he likes to play after 10pm ET typically.

I think Dio is going to be hopefully set up soon to play more regularly so I won't put him on the list. :)

You guys can all tell me if you'd prefer to be in another conference, I just wanted to consolidate down to 3 conferences. (hell, we could just go to 2 conferences)

Switching you and Texas, and having Texas in the SEC while Mich St goes to the ACC sounds a little more realistic too. And then Texas would get to play A&M, oh, how glorious! I'm also happy to make you the team with no rival and put Boise St against Nebraska.

I just was thinking you'd like to be grouped in with the majority of the goons, that was all that went into that thought process.

edit - And I can't find out schedules yet, and may not be able to until after realignment anyway. So I don't think I could tell you your CPU gauntlet ahead of time, but you can restart CPU games here you know.

OFF-SEASON RECRUITING

Let me know as you're readied up.

ZSB gave me an idea on a potential way to set the teams up that could work (but would be pretty crazy). I'm having a busy day today so I'll post it here tomorrow and we can all discuss and see if we are all cool with it. The gist of it would be to set all user teams to independents, so I'd have ultimate control of scheduling, and would just require some BCS bowl tie-in adjustments to make sure we get the max amount of possible user bowl games. We'd lose CCGs, but I could give anyone pretty much as many user games as they want. I'll copy/paste what ZSB had sent me tomorrow and we can discuss!

So here was the idea from ZSB:

ZSB posted:

I think this may be the more appropriate answer. Absolve having anyone in conferences and move all your users to be independents. This will give you total control over their schedules. They can continue to play whatever rivalry CPU games are necessary while being able to mix and match users as you see fit to generate as many or as few user games as you want. Plus since you're the drunk dynasty, let's be fair only if every AD was drunk would that many teams go independent. The downside to this is obv there is no hardware & no extra championship games, and you'll prb want to clear out some of the BCS tie ins to allow for more at large bids. The flip side is the chances that your teams end up matched up against each other in bowls goes up, as well as creating more opportunities to end up playing different bowl games than say the same 2 or 3. The only thing is that I've never actually tried this since I don't really tool around in offline dynasties anymore, but I think this might be the more elegant solution to your problem of having people get more user games, but maintain the spirit of everyone is all over with different schedules. That'd be my 2 cents.
I'm all for it, I think it sounds like something fun to try. I don't exactly know how to do it yet but I assume it wouldn't take me forever to figure out.

Everyone could pretty much dictate their schedule, though without any CCGs, expect to always have at minimum 3-4 regular season user games (more for the people who had better teams to start with, or for those who just want more).

Anyone have any opposing thoughts/concerns?

JB asked about how it would affect conference prestige, which I don't have the answer to. I assume ND isn't a tough team to recruit with, so it can't be a huge issue I'd think?

Yeah, we were actually moving fast as gently caress for a while, I think I was commenting on it in this thread earlier even. But then my move slowed it down more than anything, and I was so busy before, during, and after that I was giving a lot more time than I would normally.

About to advance. Not sure when it gets to conference realignment.

It may NOT be necessary really, but I am kinda just into doing it because we've never done it before and who knows what it will end up like. I don't think it will hurt things but this is the crazy dynasty so we gonna roll with it and see.

POSITION CHANGES

I'm pretty much going to go off what everyone is saying in GM as far as when they're ready to advance.
