If you want a vision of the future...
So UEFA just called for FIFA to postpone their presidential election, which seems like a pretty big deal.

Out of curiosity, what's UEFA's reputation like in terms of corruption?

Sky Sources: Swiss nationals working for Fifa including Sepp Blatter told by investigators they can't leave Switzerland until further notice

Switzerland doesn't extradite its citizens, but considering there's a joint Swiss investigation going on, this seems fairly ominous.

Let's say Blatter didn't commit any crimes on US soil, but he did in Europe, and his arrested flunkies roll over and provide evidence to that end. Is it possible he could be arrested and extradited to the applicable country?

You don't need to commit a crime to be indicted on RICO charges, you just need to encourage criminal activity within your organization. It's the whole point of a RICO case.

Yeah, this isn't like when the SEC files a civil suit against a company and it gets dragged out and eventually there's a meager settlement to make it go away. If the DOJ is filing charges you are fuuuuuuuucked.

So who besides Barry Bonds beat the charges in the recent spat of DOJ sports crimes they seem to love to prosecute?

Fairly high since the DOJ only goes after small fish to get the big fish. Also, RICO is specifically constructed to nail the balls of the very rich, powerful, and connected to the wall with the only time anyone really escaped a RICO charge being John Gotti via jury tampering in 87.

Hell's Angels in the early 80's was also a pretty spectacularly failed prosecution.

Well yeah, but that case was laughably inept.

Hopefully FIFA's ineptitude isn't contagious.

Basically, there's not much point to filing RICO charges if you're not going after the leaders of an organization and/or the organization as a whole. That's why people are optimistic.
