This thread looks like fun.

My small IT shop wants everyone to get some Microsoft certifications. My boss wants to buy the $1000 yearly plan for CBT nuggets for each of us. But he wants each of us to sign a 2 year contract to do it. Thoughts? Worth it? I don't see myself leaving anytime soon.

At my small company the boss told me that for every test in the MCSE track we took and past they'd give us a 3% raise or something, he figured we'd each just do one or two. The other guy I work with had some medical leave after for the next three weeks and studied up and then took like five of the tests. He got his 15% raise and I got an email saying that the deal was off the table.

I feel like that he fairly earned his 15% though. If anything, he probably gained a lot of knowledge that more than covers his 15%.

I hate nothing more than this. I'm so glad my new boss is on-board with the notion of getting rid of poo poo, because we have a ton of worthless crap we don't need. We have ~100 PCs company wide, and probably 400 extra mice / keyboards in varying refurbished states, plus modems, switches, routers, monitors, 128 mb sticks of memory, power strips that were probably bought in a gas station in the 1990s, etc. etc. Our end-users don't want reused poo poo we recovered from a closed store, and I don't want to get called every other weak because the replacement we put in was used and went bad too. Budget a little more for replacements and throw this poo poo out and save the difference in labor costs and happier end-users.

My reality ATM. I just opened my desk drawer (I don't think I have ever opened them) to find a sealed box ValueRAM 128MB 133MHz SDRAM stick. Not only purchased...but never used.

Alright everyone. I'm stuck on a routing problem and need help.

I have a customer for whom I am currently setting up Windows Deployment Services. I have one of their machines here I am setting up with a base image. The problem is that I need full access to their network resources. The easy answer, VPN. I have setup several site to site VPNs for this customer with ASAs in the past. But all of the machines were on the same network. Here's the problem I have today.

The WDS machine can't talk to the next hop (the first firewall with 10.15.28.1).

I know what I have setup is not ideal. But is there a way to make the WDS machine talk to the firewall properly? Is this more suited for the Cisco thread? Is this a waste of my time?

Any help is appreciated.

EDIT: It looks like I can just add a subinterface to an existing interface. Then I can assign it an IP in the correct subnet.

Cisco is the behemoth. They don't give a gently caress about you. Their products are 2x as expensive as competitors and 4x as complicated for no real reason. Their bureaucracy is astonishing. If you need and customer service or technical support, good luck getting a hold of someone who can solve your problem. Their TAC is pretty much the "gold standard" of tech support, but that's really more of a critique on the state of the industry rather than a compliment. They're the poster child for "make sure you're using a good VAR."

Don't get me wrong, they're not unique. There's lots of other companies who fit the same mold, AT&T, IBM, Xerox, etc... but yeah.

I have no counter, you are pretty much correct.

Also, the AT&T logo has to do with my old job. The caption is making fun of the fact that the CEO of AT&T made a hand gesture that made me think he has a small penis.
