It looks, if the trailer is to be believed, like Bethesda has gone and borrowed from some of the more innovative FO3/FNV mods. Before the E3 announcement I was just thinking about how the story would be rear end, but now that's totally taken a back seat to how psyched I am for creating my own wasteland empire and tower-defense-ing the poo poo out of some raiders.

The BoS are clearly assholes from the lore in FNV (plus in FO and FO2, but just talking about FNV here). They waged a totally unnecessary and bloody war against the NCR following FO2 and then once the NCR got back on its feet and got the BoS under control, they nuked the NCR's gold stockpile to get back at them. The BoS lore (outside of FO3) is nothing but hoarding technology, exclusivity and/or outright hostility, and despite being flush with resources, manpower, and know-how absolutely refusing to help anyone or do anything creative/positive.

When I first saw the confirmation that there are no more skills I was disappointed, but now that I think about it I've never once had a really interesting/positive experience with skills in any of the FO games. Probably the closest to really having fun with the skills was the base crafting plus various crafting mods like RobCo Certified, where you could explore more interesting character combos like Medicine, Science, Repair. On the other hand, picking perks has always been fun. In FONV I planned out several of my playthroughs on paper, and the perks were always the roadmap. It was always "which perks can I take at this level" which determined "what skills do I need to have by that level?" So it seems natural to just eliminate the skills and make the perks more fine-grained. I'm also really excited to get a first-party settlement building/defense mechanic in the game. Hopefully between that, the crafting, and the charisma perks the breadth and depth of player options in hostile encounters increase.

I don't really care about random criticals from regular combat changing, but I would be very disappointed if stealth auto-criticals were out.

Acebuckeye13 posted:There's a big mod coming out later this year called "The Frontier" that takes place in Portland. Looks pretty solid, if the trailers are anything to go by. The trailer on http://www.falloutthefrontier.com/ looks pretty terrible, and worst of all it appears to be another NCR vs. Caesar's Legion conflict. Caesar's Legion being in Portland is such an improbable situation that they must have just chosen the location at random, which leads to the other really disappointing thing about the plot which is that we are all excited to see how life/people adapted in the PNW but this story is just about two foreign powers that we already know from FONV.

Can't wait until the game is released and this thread becomes 90% tech support questions from windows users. He's being walked through modding the game in a very complicated fashion (relative to just having steam install a game and pressing button). In fact something like TTW won't even be possible in FO4 on console with its console modding support since it relies on being able to access a side by side FO3 install.

Is it normal for PC games to have traditional Chinese localization and not simplified? It seems like a weird choice to me, given how many more readers of simplified there are.

Magmarashi posted:IQ is a pretty garbage measurement of 'intelligence' actually. It shifts around too much to be a standard and is VERY prone testing bias region to region. That's nice but not relevant to what you and I are talking about, unless you think the reason there are flaws in IQ testing is that humans can't actually be placed on a spectrum of intelligence. What you implied is that anyone who can imagine some mapping from a 1-10 rating to a real world human intelligence spectrum was confusing reality and videogames.

I don't listen to the voice actors deliver the NPC dialog in these games anyway, so I'm definitely not going to listen to the voice actor for the PC. Having to choose from 4 answer archetypes, and then wait while the result of my choice is drip fed back to me, is terrible. On the other hand, I know the dialog will be profoundly mediocre in this game so I can probably just click through all the PC lines and lose nothing.

Pretzel Rod Stewart posted:At least if the character weren't voiced I could know what my options are and imagine something resembling a sane line reading. Yeah doing PC VA really seems like the worst of both worlds-- you lock everyone into one specific voice, and the dialog itself gets less depth. Meanwhile at one end of the spectrum the roleplayers are going to pretend like the VA isn't there because their gay republican serial killer character doesn't sound like that and at the other end of the spectrum people blitzing through the plot to hoover every bit of loot and kill everything are just going to scan the captions for anything actionable and click through anything else.
