Where do you live? Do you have normal amenities, like a fridge and white skin?

I have some money and I'd like to throw it away in a game called Entropia but everyone's nice. It makes me really uncomfortable. If you've played Entropia in the past, it's the same as before. If you're thinking of playing Entropia, message me in-game; my name is [Impregnable Verge Womb]. It helps to have company while you waste hours and hours sweating for fractions of cents in this real-money economy.

Everyone in Entropia is freakily nice. Let's see if we can change that. There's a lot of unused tools for griefing.

Disclaimer: do not join Entropia to make money. Do not 'invest' in Entropia. It is a cash furnace like any other game.

Why play Entropia?

Sucking mobs dry before killing them! Sometimes called by its slang term, sweating. If you're lucky, someone will heal [fap] you while you sweat!

Vehicles! Literally throw money away on fuel in a game instead of taking a drive IRL!

Hunting! It's like the slot machine of Entropia. Guaranteed to destroy your wallet.

Mining! Get killed while you mine. It's like Eve without the space ships!

Space Ships! I lied, we actually have space ships...this aspect of the game is actually pretty fun.

Tits. My character's nipples actually come out, but that'll cost you some fractions of pennies.

And my favorite...Creature Control! Actually turn into a creature, with all rules that apply. gently caress up a pubby's vehicle, costing him whole dollars!

This game was actually a lot of fun for me, despite me never throwing a single dollar into it. I found a mentor in the starting area and he showed me all these cool places in the world, along with giving me some pretty decent starting gear. I think the only reason why I stayed for so long was due to the aforementioned mentor, pretty cool world, and the overall coolness of everyone.

Kinda a shame such a chill community is tied to very pretty and deep casino game.

I really think they should revamp their economy so that the game doesn't try to take so much PED from player. If it were me running MindArk, I'd tax every single transaction players made but I wouldn't build the game to eat PED the way it does. As it is, game eats PED through dura (almost any action) and AH fees, as well as ancillary parts, repairs, etc. I'd redesign it so that it pays out 0 PED (unless I kept the TT, then I'd keep the 'refund' option we have) but eats 0 as well...except transaction tax.

But ah well, now I'm just being a philosophical shitposter.

Oh, by the way, your old gear may be worth a lot now - you might wanna check. Probably not worth a withdrawal, though. Almost definitely not.

Is this silly game actually possible to play without dropping cash into the slot machine? I remember checking it out ages ago and never being able to perform a single action of note.

You're pretty much gonna need to drop a few bucks (read: mandatory $5/mo.) if you don't wanna sweat (the act of...it's like Runescape mining level entertainment).

Id probably go back and play if I could get a month's entertainment out of $5-10. But it's been so long I dont quite remember the mileage I'd get from that amount of cash.

You'll probably still be doing a fair amount of sweating if you go hard, especially if you don't hunt eco as gently caress. Low level mining, though, is the biggest PED sink.

What is the draw of this game, exactly?

Okay, that's true. Good point, Marquess. Point for you. But you get a point taken away for being a dick. So, back to zero.

This game still exists? I played it about a decade ago when it was making the news and quickly realized that it was anti-fun.

It is pretty impressive that a game that came out before SWG that is a literal scam that people wont even admit to playing is somehow still around considering all the MMOs that have gone under since.

I'm not a huge fanboy of Entropia - it's not even my favorite game, but how is it a scam? I mean, yeah, they kinda market it in a way to get you to believe you can reasonably make a profit off it...which you could when the servers were hot...but you had to know exactly what you were doing - which would imply you have sense in that field...not something I would recommend for someone without a related degree or experience in a related field. At any rate, and I know you weren't saying I was, but I just wanna be clear: I have not and did not advocate investing in Entropia. To clarify: there's a difference between investing with hope of profits and depositing with hope of fun. Entropia's like any game with money involved (well, ideally) in that you insert money and receive fun.

Wasnt there a guy who bought a mining area for like 30k and made his money back by selling mining rights to ppl or some poo poo?

Like I said, you gotta know what you're doin' and he wasn't playing the game in the traditional sense - what he did was even more meta than margin trading. Furthermore, there's more to that story than the surface shows, if I remember correctly. A lot of those stories turned out to be everything but total BS.

Would other people have been able to mine on that territory? Or did the game mechanics explicitly lock everyone else out?

I believe it still is as it's always been but as it is now, people pay a 'tax' to do stuff on other people's land.

poo poo yeah, this game. I've been in and out of Entropia for almost 10 years now.

I still log in sometimes to mess around on what has to be my fourth avatar. I joined just after the game "went gold" (I just looked it up, that was January 2003). There was a pretty big community then and they had just introduced the mentoring system.

I got matched up with a mentor and she taught me the game pretty well. I liked to hunt when I saved up enough from sweating. Eventually a guy named Cuey gave me a stipend to go from town to town trying to buy maganite, a very rare mineral. I would bring back any ingots I managed to buy and he would pay me a small finder's fee. This worked out very well for a while. I left the game for a while and when I came back we had fallen out of touch but Cuey was #7 on the "all time high" hunting hall of fame.

I still really enjoy the world. The game mechanics are basic and kind of lovely (enemy AI is "run towards player"), but it's a really interesting world and community and I wish more people played.

Maybe I'll try to dig up my slightly-more-skilled avatar from a few years ago. It's still ufn to fly around and explore in my Sleipnir.

That deal you had with your hunter friend is what lures in all those 'looking for work' peeps. It's amazing, really. I feel like in most cases they missed that mark by a small margin. Space taxis are still cool though.

Honestly Entropia does a lot of things right that were quite original, outside of RME even.
