im disappointed Azrael isn't a bonus character, or even a Jean-Paul Valley version with souped-up robot armor, but I guess Red Hood fulfills the "violent batguy" quota for this game.

are there going to be combat challenge maps where you can play with dual heroes?I've only seen it shown for story-based fights.

General consensus seems to be that yeah it's bigger and better and badder, it's Batman, if you liked the other 2 you'll like this one lots.

I really don't care if the main story is garbage, so long as there are a lot of side missions that let me Batman around, catching villains and doing (fake but cool looking) detective work. I hope whoever takes over making Batman games after this goes in more of a GTA direction, where most of the narrative driven content is side missions clustered into individual cases. I don't even need or really want a big overarching story, unless the writers really have something clever and fresh to bring to the table. Give me 20 cases with 5-10 missions each and I'll be happy.

they probably aren't making anymore for a long while. seems like WB Studios is going to lean on stuff like Mordor and Mad Max, which has become spiritual successors in terms of the open world and the combat systems.

Rocksteady should work with Monolith next to ensure we get a fuller, more fleshed out Mordor game.

I can't help but wonder what the reason for Batman doing races with Riddler is. Hostages again? Just an excuse to make Riddler even more neurotic?

Riddler somehow creating these giant racetracks makes zero loving sense but I don't care because it's dumb fun. Personally I probably won't bother to obsess over every single Riddler thing because I am sick to loving death of it, though. WB is slowly becoming Ubisoft in terms of "collect them all" bullshit. Mordor had stuff like that too but much of it was at least tied to missions or generally interesting exploration.

Regardless of slow start and car shenanigans I think it's fun so far and the game looks so loving gorgeous on PS4, big step up from AC. If companies start moving away from Steam then it just becomes clear who's not willing to shell out a bit more time/money and makes them seem like they'd rather deliver low quality ports to appease the PC community.

This would be amazing because it could guarantee a DLC wherein you must fight/team up with We3.

Some of the fights in this are brutal due to the sheer variety of mooks you face in very claustrophobic areas. Never imagined a fight against 2 shield dudes, 2 stun baton guys, a charger, a knifer, and two gun toters would whip my rear end. On one hand it's great that you now have a worth match most of the time for your expanded arsenal, on the other hand it can turn into a tedious "jumping over everyone" game for a while since many encounters are in very tight spots

that tank thing early on where you have to destroy like 40 loving drone tanks was the most boring thing ever.there's basically zero variety in tank fights other than strafe, aim to shoot, sometimes you use the machinegun to shoot rockets.

man that whole zeppelin section loving owned, just what a needed after the start of the game was nonstop batmobile. much easier to deal with whatever tank sections there are once you get a big chunk of predator/combat situations.

DLC Inc
Jun 1, 2011

seems like after the beginning of the story you use the tank a bit less and they crank up some really hardcore combat and predator scenarios. The first voice vox use in a predator scenario was great and the fact that medics now exist in predator makes it even more insane. But you always get even more tools to counter those odds, they did a fantastic job with upping the ante in all respects to combat and stealth sections. Makes me even sadder that there's almost no challenge maps right now.

Darke GBF posted:

Agreed, on all counts. The Batmobile in this game is loving amazing, and handles like a dream. Even with a maxed out grapnel boost I still alternate between driving places and gliding places frequently just because the drat thing is such fun to drive.

Honestly, everything about this game except for the performance issues has me extremely impressed. The side quests are better, the combat is better/deeper, the variety in gameplay is incredible, the story is entertaining, and this might be the best collection of Joker in all the media he has ever appeared in. The city looks great, and isn't covered in the green Riddler poo poo like Arkham City was.

The chase sections where you barrel around and destroy everything while chasing APCs and their fleet or even a madman in a jetpac were awesome segments. Batmobile when it's used correctly in high octane scenarios is great; I can somewhat deal with the tank Macross sections vs like 20 at once now since it comes infrequently, though the "stealth tank" sections vs those huge tank enemies are really plodding. Ditto for anytime you have to constantly do platform puzzles with it; it slows the pace to an annoying crawl.

Everything else you've said I agree with, though---I actually like how sidequests don't exactly always pinpoint poo poo for you. You have to explore the deep corners of the city to find poo poo like burning roofs or strung up bodies. Easily better than Bane's Titan poo poo quests. And yeah, I absolutely love how the Riddler poo poo isn't OBNOXIOUSLY sprinkled everywhere in the city. It exists but its hidden so it doesn't turn the city into this ugly pastel of "buildings that have riddler buttons and wires all over every block."

The start of the game was kind of slow and put me into the batmobile way too much, but from the Zeppelin section onward the game has been absolutely great.

I agree with your assessment. Do the Penguin stuff at least. If only for more dual play segments. Two Face gives you some more predator maps too since you're looking for those. I wish we had more inside buildings. I'm not partial to the emphasis on outside predator. I know that makes it more difficult, but I think that's what I liked about the one semi-outside map in City. It was one challenge as opposed to a whole game of them. I miss the gargoyles.

there was a shitload of outside Predator scenarios which were strange because it gave you a lot of leeway in terms of just gliding away or ziplining waaaaay off onto a crane to survey things. I thought it was neat though. Overall combat and predator gives you more tools and options in this game while also upping the ante for how they react to tactics in Predator, as well as putting more aggressive thug types in Combat. that alone is a big step up from the system used in previous games so I'd be disappointed if they didn't at least add like 5 or 6 new maps to both types. I spent hours with the ones in AC, especially since you had 4 characters to use.
