Did you mean Scholar, not Summoner?

Whether you want to use Diurnal or Nocturnal when solo is your own judgment. When grouped with another healer you generally want to choose the Sect that covers the role that Healer is not providing. This means Diurnal with a Scholar partner and Nocturnal with a White Mage partner. If you end up with two ASTs, just each cover one Sect.

Which is why omnicrafting isn't going anywhere and this whole specialization system is completely ineffective. Unless they tie it in more with red scrip gear and mastery books, it's going to be pretty ignorable I suspect.

The intent wasn't to make it so that omnicrafting isn't viable, it was to make it so that you could make do with having just a few crafters leveled, rather than needing a whole bunch of poo poo at max to have all the abilities you need to craft poo poo well

The way they worded it in the patch notes make it sound like they'll give out more specialization tokens in the future, too.

So basically absolutely nothing has changed and it's still going to be best to have 8 crafters and bleed forever as you get Lucis2 for all of them.

Cue me doing my level best to DPS at the very limits of my range, using the leash distance of SCH and SCH's fairy to leave fairy just outside of range for healing. And to lock fairy and SCH outside of the first boss's door. Got kicked, sent a report.

So what you're saying is the SCH was actually doing less to sabotage the group than you were? A SCH on follow is better than most healers you'll get at that level who probably aren't going to dps anyway.

I tend to just pull the dungeon while SCH though. Moves things along faster.

I think there tanking could potentially get tough is that I'm going to have to periodically switch targets. I kinda have poor situational awareness in general and can sometimes not notice something literally staring me in the face (why I can't play competitive FPS games) so I would worry about some mob I'm not even looking at running off to go eat a white mage all while I am completely oblivious to the whole thing.

FF14 has a tendency to get extremely chaotic to almost Marvel vs. Capcom levels and I could be standing in a deadly circle of doom and have no idea. There's also a bunch that are different colors, so I don't know if this blue circle I'm standing in is someone's ability that's giving me a buff or if I'm standing in impending doom.

Now I do know that my buffs \ debuffs do show up next to my name, but I'm not super familiar with all the icons and most status effects don't last very long. And I'm busy trying to not stand in big glowy orange death zones, do dps and read what my party is saying in chat. Maybe FFXIV isn't the best game for someone with Adult ADD.

Under character settings you can turn off party effects, or set them to limited so you only see important things like Sacred Soil. You should do this.

But in general, if you see a pulsing orange AOE it's never good to stand in it. Keeper of the Lake's bosses have a lot of aoe markers, but none of them are ok to stand in. As long as you make sure your feet are clear you're golden. As for tanking, the enemy list will always let you know threat. Red = You're holding it. Yellow = You're losing it / Don't have it yet. Green = The mob gives no shits about you and might be gnawing on someone else. On top of that, the bars and numbers on the party list will tell you threat for your current target.

nuru

Not to mention the target list is fantastic for picking out a specific mob. People make it all the way to Ravana Extreme without really knowing how to use it.

Once I get back, I'm going to try and figure out how to adjust my target settings so I can scroll through it by using up\down on my dpad. The only reliable way I've figured out how to use it is with my mouse, and that's no good. I think be default, up/down is your party, and left\right is everything else, right?

What you want to look into are targeting filters. On a controller I believe there's a way to toggle what type of targets you want to cycle through with the dpad.

I'd buy this if you hadn't personally admitted you did everything in your power to keep the fairy away from the tank. If you had just acted normally the dungeon would have cleared without issue. If you were dpsing and the fairy ended up out of range coincidentally I'd see it differently.

60 Summoners, how do you aoe down trash packs?

I do something like Shadow Flare, , run in and Miasma II while doing Tri-disaster (or hardcast DoTs), Bane, Painflare, and Blizzard II spam, and that's fine for the first ten seconds. What do you do after that, is my main question--I've been re-casting all the DoTs for a fresh Bane (even though there's some 15 seconds left on Bio II) if they have enough HP, but I'm not sure that's any better than just hitting Painflare. But if you do that, what do you do while in Dreadwyrm Trance, hardcast DoTs individually until it's time for Deathflare or what?

Maybe I'm missing some next level poo poo here, but I have literally never seen a SMN use blizzard 2 outside of low level, and personally don't use it in my AOE rotation.

edit: I'm wrong. Its potency is high enough that it's worthwhile over Ruin spam.

Since HW release I have not seen anyone use it in dungeons. I didn't say it was bad. But feel free to think I was saying it was garbage rather than reading what I said.

In HW dungeons it's probably because SMN are juggling Tri-disaster's cooldown with Aetherflow/Aethertrail stacks between pulls and bane has a fairly short duration. There aren't a lot of opportunities to just cast blizzard, so I imagine people who do main SMN are just not doing it for the effort vs potency.
