He keeps upgrading his PC but is still using a "Lacie electron blue" claiming it is superior for gaming and everyday computer tasks. Is this a common mental issue and if so what can I do as a concerned party? Please advice.

I did that sort-the-color test on a cheap Samsung, a Dell U2410, and a GDM-FW900 and got perfect each time, but for the Samsung monitor I had to figure out the order from dither patterns, for the Dell monitor I could use color but some were very very close, and for the GDM-FW900 the color differences were crystal clear.

I tried to use an inexpensive LCD but I can't find one that will scale right (doubling or tripling only, plus centering) and have been looking into maybe getting a VGA-to-HDMI adaptor contract-designed/mfrd that can do the scaling right for a wide range of frequencies
