Eh, this is just their early support. They could take the deck in any direction as the show progresses. Remember how god-awful Performapals were until like a year into the series?

They already have powerful searching and an insane trap (that can be searched!). Even if they only exist to be teched into other decks right now, they're still pretty okay.

I hope we get them in the TCG properly and they do not suffer the DDD treatment.

Is anybody else playing Duel Links for ios and Android? It's got a really good presentation and seems to have a lot of potential to expand and add cards and interesting duel mechanics (even though they simplified the game a bit for faster duels on mobile) but it's also got some grinding against a lot of boring opponents which I'm not a fan of. Still, sure beats having to actually pay money for trading cards.

They're in Code of the Duelist, which is the next main after MACR. They might get a few random promos here and there, but for the most part I don't think we have to worry about the D/D treatment.

You'd probably been better of investing in gold futures but for now one of the cooler arc-V archetypes will have to do.

Duel links is pretty cool. It doesn't prepare you for the real game at all, but I definitely enjoy it as a fun diversion, though you have to get over the initial hump of starting with nothing but absolute trash cards.

This video sums up Duel Links vs. Yugioh irl pretty well:

Yeah I just got through Nightmare Troubadour which was more like actual YGO so Duel Links is watered down. But I like that neither is as crazy intense as the actual card game has become. I couldn't keep up with that poo poo.

It is a steep cost for what it is, but the idea is that you can move it out of the Extra Zone - remember that it's releasing post-Links. I dunno, maybe there's a Speedroid that benefits from self-bouncing?

So, we have official proxies for TCG-side Link-era stuff, and they reveal some changes to existing card text conventions. They're a loving disaster.

References to the graveyard are now pointlessly shortened to "GY", which sounds clunky and reduces clarity. "During either player's turn" effects are now denoted with "(Quick Effect)", which is alright, but I preferred it when card effects flowed as a sentence. These changes are minor.

Monster types are no longer denoted with "-type". A Dragon-type monster is now simply a Dragon monster. Considering how many types are also in card names, this is going to be a gigantic source of confusion for inattentive players. I hang out in the official YGOPro Discord, and already have to constantly help people with the difference between Z-ARC's fusion materials and Astrograph Sorceror's effects. Now that will involve explaining the difference between a '"Synchro Dragon" monster' and a 'Dragon Synchro monster'. :ughh:

While I'm complaining, there's some new stuff I take issue with too. Decode Talker's requirement of two or more Effect monsters is written "2> Effect Monsters". Not "2+". Not "2≥". "2>". This isn't just unclear, it's actively wrong to anyone who understands elementary school maths.

Ehhh. The new main deck monsters are useful, but the Battle Phase is a little late to be making your grave preparation and in my experience so far they don't have a very good first turn. The field spell is pretty disappointing too - the targeting protection is nice, but should come stock on a modern boss monster instead of relying on something else, the self-bounce doesn't do much except in one narrow situation (equip spell of a main deck Cyberdark is spent and you want to re-equip it), and the Fusion search requires your opponent to give it to you instead of being at-will like, say, Ancient Gear backrow. That said it does have some fun tricks - dump, then attach a Quasar, and you get Shooting Star when you use Cyberdarkness' negation. It's a deck I plan to try to make work, and not just because they're the first to be added to YGOPro.

While I'm discussing new stuff, the -roids are really disappointing for locking out some potential Speedroid synergy that Mobile Base seemed like it was inviting. Half your LP is a really steep cost for Mixeroid's effect (which, by the way, seems to summon a monster of level equal to the number of monsters banished, not their combined levels like the Org originally reported), and the field swapping stats in battle is a joke of an effect for all but one card in the archetype.

Bastion's new stuff seems potentially usable - Dinosaurs are suddenly a well-supported type, after all - but I plan to reserve judgment on it until I can try them in YGOPro. We won't be able to play with Vullets until Pro gets Links, but their self-popping focus seems fun to play with and their boss monster looks scary to face - also they're gun dragons. Metaphys I'm personally excited for because of their focus on banishing - I main a banish-focused gimmick deck. Is there anything apart from miscellaneous Cyberse stuff that I'm missing?

Kinda surprised we got another list so soon. At least it feels so soon.

Too bad it seems to only kill decks I liked or buff pendulum magicians which I haven't got any interest in.

Okay with grass going down. Like it enables fun interesting decks but also boosts some that could be too sacky with it. It'll really suck to lose to someone having it multiple games now though.

Honestly I'm fine with this. Terrortop and especially Norden have had it a long time coming.

Zoos are still gonna be tier 1, (and in fact infernoids are on a really tough spot now without GLG), so they're still probably gonna be the best, but now they can't plus as hard, will suffer a bit in consistency, and may allow for True Kings and Dinosaurs to do more on their own.

Terrortop to 1 as a Zoo hit (as opposed to BA which was relevant back when OCG did it) has been proven ineffective by Zoos continued dominance in the OCG, so :rip: Wind Synchro for no change to the actual meta.

Grass is the progenitor of a million awesome casual gimmicks and the playmaker for exactly one meta deck - one that's not exactly the threat to beat. Oh but it's still playable because they left it at 1 out of 60. :downsgun:

The existence of this banlist at all retroactively makes banning Tyrant Neptune in advance (the card it caused problems with is in MACR) pointless, since if it had been a problem they could have banned it now. This is probably immaterial but I really don't like the precedence it set for banning something before the release of an actual reason.

And I mean I like Pendulum Magicians but this is such a bald-faced cash grab that it's disgusting.

I swear I enjoy this game, but all the latest news from the TCG is just... :barf:

While I do think GLG did deserve a hit...now wasn't the right time. I don't see a functional difference between decks that win a lot due to a card like GLG (people will say they got "lucksacked" ) or win a lot due to the deck being inheritly powerful and consistent (Zoodiac and Dracolord), so Konami should have waited until after NAWCQ before hitting all of the decks equally.

And yeah, the pendulum stuff is a blatant cash grab, though since magician decks will lose quite a bit of potency after Link format and the new rules hit, I can understand them wanting to give them some limelight before then, especially since this is the end if the Arc-V era, which was defined in large by the pendulum mechanic, so it works off ad a sendiff to the Anime.

It doesn't work as a sendoff because the booster with all the new Pendulum Magician support (which was released in OCG as a structure deck but TCG loves their cash grabs) is coming out exactly one month before the Link starter deck.

If it's meant to be a sendoff, it's a pretty lovely one.
