Thanks for all the replies. I sorta figured you just go with an archetype but was more wondering if there was any way to learn staples/more than just 3x what comes up in YGOPro search or if it just came with experience. I'm guessing the latter. I'll keep wights in mind (and also want to make a Kozmo deck because come on :iia:) but I have scraped together two decks I wouldn't mind advice on.

This Hieratic deck was, uh, inspired by the wiki but reconstructed on android from memory while drunk so it's like my own creation. :v: I'm aware it's missing staples, a side deck and a full extra deck.

This Exodia deck was similarly inspired by the AI Library deck but (hopefully :v:) better, with the addition of cards I heard of here and some fat-trimming.

If YGOPro didn't exist I would never in a million years have gotten back in to this ridiculous game. The entirety of my physical collection is an unholy mix of the Kaiba and whoever in GX used dinosaurs starter decks and like two cards from a Joey deck traded off a friend, all from back when the Extra Deck was the Fusion Deck.

I mean I'm preaching to the choir here but I really am quite grateful. Can't believe I temporarily gave up on a game that wound up introducing Kozmo :allears:.

Dragunity Witches

Monsters (24)
  • 3 Dragunity Dux
  • 3 Dragunity Phalanx
  • 2 Dragunity Arma Mystletainn
  • 2 Dragunity Darkspear
  • 3 Windwitch Ice Bell
  • 2 Windwitch Glass Bell
  • 2 Windwitch Snow Bell
  • 2 Pilica, Descendant of Gusto
  • 2 Creation Resonator
  • 2 Maxx "C"
  • 1 Red Eyes Darkness Metal Dragon
Spells (11)
  • 2 Dragon Ravine
  • 2 Terraforming
  • 2 Dragunity Divine Lance
  • 1 Foolish Burial
  • 1 Mystical Space Typhoon
  • 1 Quill Pen of Gulldos
  • 2 Cards of Consonance
Traps (5)
  • 1 Waboku
  • 2 Quaking Mirror Force
  • 1 Compulsory Evacuation Device
  • 1 Solemn Warning
Extra (15) (They're all Synchros)
  • 1 Star Eater
  • 1 Trident Dragion
  • 3 Crystal Wing Synchro Dragon
  • 1 Stardust Dragon
  • 1 Clear Wing Synchro Dragon
  • 1 Windwitch Winter Bell
  • 1 Daigusto Sphreez
  • 1 Stardust Charge Warrior
  • 2 Dragunity Knight Vajrayana
  • 1 Vortex the Whirlwind
  • 1 Hi-Speedroid Chanbara
  • 1 Great Old One Hastur

Dux and Phalanx make up the archetype's primary combo. Dumping Phalanx (perhaps with Ravine, to search Dux, for example) allows him to be pulled into the backrow on Dux's normal summon, from where he can special summon himself and Synchro into Vajrayana, which does the same as Dux, resulting in a Crystal Wing.

Mystletainn is a mediocre padding option. If you've got it and Phalanx in the hand with no Ravine, you can normal summon the latter and then tribute it for the former's special summon, which has the same effect as Dux, but since it's not a Synchro you can't go into Crystal Wing - that's what Stardust is there for. It has to be Stardust - or rather, WIND - because both Pilica and Windwitches restrict special summons to WIND monsters, so I went with them wherever possible.

Darkspear is there as dumping fodder, and once it's in the graveyard Pilica can take it and go into Sphreez. It could have been any level 3 WIND tuner, but what the hell this fits the archetype.

Dexie has gone into Windwitches before. If you've got no monsters, Ice Bell can special summon itself from the hand and Glass Bell from the deck, which in turn searches Snow Bell, which can special summon itself with the other two on the field. From there you can Synchro into a level 7, then Synchro that with Snow Bell for a destruction-immune Crystal Wing.

As well as the Darkspear to Sphreez play, Pilica is just generally useful for being another source of Synchro summons. Creation Resonator can work instead of Darkspear, or special summon on Crystal Wing for Star Eater should you need a bit more of a beater over the lockdown effects (or just for fun). Maxx "C" is there as a staple, and REDMD is a standard splash in Dragon-heavy decks.

Dragon Ravine helps you get the cards you want in the right places, searching Dux, dumping Phalanx, or if the latter is in hand, both at once! Terraforming is more critical than usual here because Ravine is semi-limited, but having more of it than my field spell felt uncomfortable and I had to remove something for one of my later monster splashes. Divine Lance can get a Phalanx from the deck if you couldn't dump one, or an extra one if you want to go into Dragion.

Foolish Burial dumps Phalanx, MST is a staple. Cards of Consonance can dump Phalanx while adding draw power, and the Quill Pen recycles Duxes (or whatever you want) while bouncing an enemy card. All of the traps are staples.

Star Eater and Dragion are there as frivolous winmore if I'm bored of Crystal Wings and not relying on their negation. There are no other at all, let alone WIND, level 11s, and the only WIND 10s have specific summon conditions, so I just don't use them on Pilica or Windwitch turns. Crystal Wing is at 3 pretty much because I can - the right hand can pump out two in a turn. Stardust is, as mentioned, a level 8 option that doesn't require a prior Synchro. Clear Wing and Winter Bell are level 7s for the Windwitch combo or Pilica pulling Glass Bell. Sphreez has been discussed, but Charge Warrior is there in case I get to level 6 without Pilica. Vajrayana's been discussed. Vortex the Whirlwind and Chanbara are there if all I have to pull with Pilica is a Phalanx. Hastur is a backup if Glass Bell gets destroyed during the Windwitch combo and I only have Ice and Snow, though I have to wait a turn because Glass' WIND-lock also restricts to level 5 and up.

(2) When an opponent’s card effect that targets a card you control is activated: You can Tribute 1 of your monsters Linked to this card; negate that activation, and if you do, destroy it.

Further Information

Look at those distinctive Link Markers! Use these Markers to develop brand new strategies!
It goes into your Extra Deck!

There are 2 ways of Link Summoning!!
>>Send Materials to the Grave Equal to the Link Number!
>You can Link Summon something from your Extra Deck by sending the same number of monsters that meet the material requirements written in the card’s effect box, whose total numbers equal to the LINK number, from the field to the Graveyard
>>Decrease Materials by Using Link Monsters
>Link Monsters are treated as the same number of materials as its LINK Number, however to use them you must match the requirements written on the card!

IN THE CASE OF “DECODE TALKER”
You can either
-Use 3 Effect Monsters
or
-Use 1 Link 2 Effect monster and 1 Effect Monster

Pay Attention to the Direction of the Link Markers!
>The Zones pointed to by each Link Marker and the cards in them will be affected by the Link Monster, and this will create new strategies!

They have no defense…!!!
Link monsters have no defense points and they have the special characteristics of being unable to change their battle positions or turning to defense position by effects.

quote:

The Newly Created Extra Monster Zone
>You can only use one of them!<

When the Duel begins, neither Extra Monster Zone is considered to belong to a specific player. When a player Special Summons a monster to one of them, that Zone then becomes treated as part of that player’s field, and the other then becomes treated as the other player’s field. The tactics of a Duel will change drastically depending on who can grab an Extra Monster Zone first! An Extra Deck Monster can only be Summoned to the Extra Monster Zone! But if you Summon a Link Monster to one of the Extra Monster Zone first, you can utilize it to its max potential!

*Extra Deck Monsters, like Fusion, Synchro, Xyz, and Link, cannot be Summnoned to the Main Monster Zone, beware!

– What has been the [Monster Zone] up till now is now the [Main Monster Zone]
– The [Pendulum Zone] is on the left and right of the [Spell & Trap Zone]. You can use it as a normal [Spell & Trap Zone], but when you place Pendulum cards there, it is treated as the [Pendulum Zone]

The Zones Pointed at by Link Markers Can be Used to Bring Out Extra Deck Monsters
Although Extra Deck Monsters can only be Summoned to the Extra Monster Zone Normally, if you have a Link Monster in the Extra Monster Zone, the Zones pointed at by their Link Markers can be used to Summon Extra Deck Monsters! So if you get out a Link Summon quickly, you can bring out Fusion, Synchro, and Xyz Monsters in succession. Of course, you can Summon another Link Monster in one of these Zones, so if you play your cards right, you can fill your entire Main Monster Zone with Extra Deck Monsters! The new metagame will require careful consideration of where to place monsters!
Super Quick Q&A for the New Rules!
Q: If Special Summoned an Extra Deck Monster normally, and it goes to the Graveyard, and I want to Special Summon it with “Monster Reborn”, which Zone does it go to?
A: It goes into the Main Monster Zone, not the Extra Monster Zone.
Q: Can you use “Book of Moon” on Link Monsters?
A: Link Monsters cannot be face-down, so you cannot target them with “Book of Moon”.

Q: If your opponent’s only monster is in their Extra Monster Zone, can you attack them directly?
A: If there’s a monster in the Extra Monster Zone, unless some kind of effect is in play, you would have to attack that monster first.

Q: Can you destroy 2 Set Spell & Trap Cards in your Left Most and Right Most Spell & Trap Zones with “Wavering Eyes”?
A: The Left Most and Right Most Spell & Trap Zones are regular Spell & Trap Zones, and do not become Pendulum Zones unless you activate a Pendulum Card in them, or if a Pendulum Card is placed in them by a card effect. A Set Spell & Trap Card in either of those Zones cannot be destroyed by “Wavering Eyes”.

GARVASE DAY!

This will be old news to this page, but I'm gonna try to sum up the new stuff as I understand it in a more readable format than Japanese ad copy.

Yu-Gi-Oh! Vrains Rule Changes

  • The first change, which will seem relatively minor once we're done here, is the abolishment of Pendulum Zones. Instead, Pendulum Monsters can be activated in the left- and right-most Spell and Trap Zones, with them being treated as Pendulum Zones only when a Pendulum Monster (as a spell) is in them.
  • There are two new zones on the playfield, the Extra Zones. There are two on the board situated between each player's 2nd and 4th Monster Zone, and are initally not owned by either player. The first player to summon a monster from the Extra Deck (that's Fusion, Synchro, Xyz, or something new we'll get to) places it in one of these Zones, and the other then belongs to their opponent. With an exception we'll get to, you can only summon Extra Deck monsters in these Extra Zones, meaning each player (initally) can only play one such monster at a time.
  • The fourth Extra Deck monster I alluded to is the Link Monster, a dark blue card with no level or defense, instead having a Link Number. (Because they have no defense stat, they cannot be in defense position, or face-down.) They are summoned by tributing a number of monsters that fit a condition listed on the card equal to their Link Number, with another Link Monster counting for an amount of monsters equal to its Link Number. They are also the aforementioned exception to the limitation on Extra Deck summoning. Pictured above is Decode Talker, a Link Monster. Notice the arrows around the card picture. Spaces that the red/lit arrows point to can be occupied by Extra Deck monsters. This is a double-edged sword, notice the arrow pointing towards the opponent. Yes, this means positioning matters again.
  • Also, minor thing, there's a new type, called "Cybers" in Japanese. Decode Talker has it, it seems related to Links and Vrains' VR theme.

E: There's also a bunch of new cards teased including other links, but I just want to consolidate the stuff that's of long-term importance.

It's in addition, they go between the two player's monster zones. So the arrows pointing down point to a monster zone. If you summon it in a regular monster zone with links, the current theory is that only left and right arrows count.

They function as an engine, certainly. Senerio plays them with Aquaactresses, and I run them in a Paleozoic Rank 2 engine (effectively Toadally turbo). They're sometimes used as a tribute engine, which is probably where the God card thing came from, but there are probably better.

I pulled a Toadally Awesome from a booster pack the other day. Are Frogs still viable? I have a friend who said he used to run them, seems like a fun/interesting deck if it's still decent. Also heard that it's a good deck for Egyptian God cards, it'd feel pretty good dropping Obelisk on my friend for stealing my Red-Eyes deck idea.
