I just had a productive gym session but I'm afraid it wasn't as glute-dominant I was hoping for. Perhaps I was a little overzealous with the weights and devolved into the quad-dominant form that I am trying to avoid. Glutes are notoriously difficult to activate. Will do bodyweight exercises tonight with extra special attention to giving those cheeks a proper clench.

I don't know about everyone else but I just use them as supplements if it turns out at the end of the day my protein didn't add up from the real foods I was actually eating. It's more like a just-in-case or convenience thing. Whey protein is quickly digested so supposedly it's optimal in the 30-45 minute anabolic window immediately after a good workout but I also hear that anabolic window is bullshit so I dunno.
