Awesome update for mobile and tablet.  Some bugs that you may or may not have spotted: - at first, only the app splash screen would show and then crash, even after uninstalling and reinstalling a few times. Now after trying on and off, the app is fine and I was able to log in (only on mobile, tablet version never had this issue; Lumia 950) - the hamburger button (only on mobile, again) is teal while the rest of the bar is my accent color. I think the only time I've seen them match is the very first time I got past the app splash screen - on both mobile and tablet (SP3), I occasionally get this issue where the text looks like it's starting behind the hamburger button, so it gets cut off - when you've viewed a thread and go back to bookmarks, and then view that thread again, the Show Previous Posts button doesn't show - reading a thread in landscape mode and then switching to portrait on tablet keeps the height of the pane with the thread content at the same height as it would be in landscape (it does orient correctly) Are you taking pull requests? I notice you don't have any issues open under either the AwfulRedux or the AwfulForumReader repos. Probably just messing about with the themes and layout if you want help with that (really this is just an excuse to get the Quote/Last Read/Edit buttons all on one row for mobile and mess around with Xamarin  ).

For now I just forked the control and try catched out that error, but it causes the spacer for the thread header to sometimes not adjust correctly. If this happens, just rotate your phone and it'll reset. I hope either I or them will come up with a proper fix soon. 4. Currently that's expected behavior (This basically is what the iOS awful app does) but I'm not sure it's going to stick like that. Unless you're saying that the button goes away and is not showing the previous posts automatically in which case that's news to me. 5. That's due to a Master/Detail control I forked and modified for this app and probably due to my lovely math is not resetting the layout. It should work correctly in Window Mode if you drag it around. I have seen this from time to time. Best bet for right now is restart the app. I have to rewrite more of that control to actually work consistently. Send all PRs to AwfulRedux (AwfulForumsRepo is there for legacy reasons, but I don't use it). I'm more than willing to take any PRs and everything is fair game. The only thing I would say is that if you want to work with the thread view, you need to install Xamarin Studio and open the AwfulWebTemplate solution. VS does not generate the razor templates correctly in the non-web project, but XS does. It will compile file in VS, but it won't update changes to the code behind.

Okay, so I think I know the problem, and it has to do with the new "What's New" feature breaking on release builds for some builds of Windows 10. None of my devices break on it, but the emulator does... sometimes... okay once. So I tweeked it and I think it's okay? But again, I'm not sure. It's not happening for everyone as far as I can tell. It's not for me, that's for sure  So I opened up the beta for everyone. It's (nearly) the same build as what's out there, but slight older. Hopefully this one works for now. I've also uploaded the current release appx and the last debug build on my OneDrive, which can be sideloaded. Here is a guide on how to do it via the device portal. Again, I'm sorry for any issues. It seems to be okay for most, at least it worked for the 20 or so people in the beta as far as I know. So I did not foresee any issues with it for the normal launch. But of course, that happens, and I want to get something working as soon as possible. Hopefully the current build in certification will also fix it, but I won't know until at least Tuesday. EDIT: Also if anyone is wondering why I can't see the crashes in the developer portal  None of them work! No matter the browser or platform, it never loads.

Oddly enough I've got the exact same hardware(LTE though, dunno if that applies to you too) and build, and no issues whatsoever. I did come from the beta though, so maybe that's related, or I just got lucky. I also got the "What's new?" screen.

Dunno if it's a bug with Windows or the app, but on the current and previous Insider Builds I've had the Live Tile stop updating and bookmarks not refreshing in the background. The only solution that's worked so far has been to uninstall and reinstall, after which it acted normal again, unpinning or logging out and logging back in did nothing. Background data is enabled for the app, and the settings in the app itself appear to be correct too. After yesterday's new build the issue came back though(Still on Lumia 640 LTE) I'm still using the beta, should I switch back to the release version?

Turning it off and on in settings should force the background process to clear and restart. I've not had my app do that (to the best of my knowledge, it's showing the right data at the moment, but I've had Aeries not update before, showing the same twitter images. It could be an OS level thing. I could put something into settings to clear them out fully to see if they start updating after that.Currently the release version is one ahead of beta. Pushing out multiple APPX packages to the store is a pain in the rear end, so I'm not sure how I'm going to handle release/beta channels. At some point I might try to automate and package builds into a nightly build site, but  .

Turns out the live tile thing is an issue with the current build, I've seen people report it for various other tiles and it's a bit random. I've also had it happen to the Photos tile occasionally. I did go to the release version and so far it's been nice.

I feel like the app could use a better way to delineate threads that have new posts in the bookmark pane; same for opened but not bookmarked threads in the regular forum browser. Maybe a highlight color or something with font weight.

Only big issue I'm having is that the app isn't hiding previous posts, so threads always open at the top of the page. Confirmed on three separate devices, including a fresh install just now. Unless there is a color difference and it's subtle enough that I'm not noticing it. I'll double check when I get back to my surface.

11.3.2.0 seems quite unstable to me. I have had a lot of occurrences where I get dumped back to Start when opening a thread from my bookmarks. I'm running public build 10.0.10586.420. I also noticed that the loading animation switched between a smiley face, the Awful face and then back. I assume that I must have picked up more updates for the app?

So when you enter threads, go between pages, you'll see it. And that's probably what's causing the issue. I don't know why. Because it works for me .I'll take it out for now and replace it with a loading circle. I'll wait for the anniversary update I guess, since that has native gif support.

I've pushed a new build to turn it off for now, though. For most users it seems to be working fine, but there are a few where it crashes a lot on them. It's not worth having nice throbbers when it throws errors, so I will probably have to wait to use them .

So if you are on a desktop with a big monitor and make the app full screen, it should show the avatars on the left, but at more normal sizes (like on tablets) it's still in mobile mode.I've been making adjustments to that template which should help fix those issues. I'm uploading a new update to Awful that should add some nifty new bug fixes (and probably bugs ). The updates to the thread web views are in, as well as new thread icons and better handling of thread replies. and while it didn't make the cut for this release (because I just added it), gang tags should also be coming soon.  You would only see them if you have enough space to do so. So desktop, tablet, and Xbox. The other platforms would default to the mobile view, which hides it. I've submitted another update to Microsoft, currently in certification. I have fixed numerous bugs: favoriting forums and sub-forums on the main page should work again, and thread tags missing from my current set should now appear as empty, rather than blank. This Awful release is also the first release I have submitted for the Xbox. Should it pass, it will be the first Awful program to be available for TV. I still need to adjust more of the UI for TV use, and there is a white or black border around the app for Overscan mode (You can turn that off in the Xbox's settings, under Video Output), but functionally it should all be working. EDIT: Oh yeah, user titles and gang tags should now appear if the app has enough space to show them. It should work on tablets and desktop.

I have something to share with this thread. It's a review that was left by someone last month, and I only now saw it. "The Win10 version is a goddamn dumpster fire. Three stars"  I don't know who wrote this, but I figured I would write it here rather than respond directly to that review. First of all, if anyone has a problem with the app (be it UI, bugs, whatever), you can contact me here! Post in the thread! I read it! I'm assuming this user has a smaller 8-inch tablet, so having the threads always visible is bad. I don't have that (only a Surface Pro 3), so I don't check it. Instead of thinking that I just want to make your forum experience hell, you could maybe mention it (as other users have!) so I can add it as a feature. As for bugs with the thread view being squished, I know it. I've tried to adjust it so that it will refresh the layout when rotation occurs, which seems to help. It still happens, though, so more needs to be done. I don't know what those other issues are. Showing only new posts works if you set "Mark posts on pages I've already seen in a different color." in your settings. Same for unread counts in threads. I'll probably put in a first-run wizard or some help menu for explaining some of these things because they're necessary for my stuff to work. But please, in the future, just write in this thread if you have issues. I'm more than willing to fix them, but it's easier if you write civil posts. It's me. I'm the dick. Actually that's not me and I'm not sure what they are talking about with the rotation issues, but I hope they are fixable. I love the app and use it every day and don't really have many complaints about it. Sure there are some odd formatting issues, the occasional exit to desktop, or some features that work but in a wonky way. But to say it's a dumpster fire is a bit unfair. E: Also that page pick UI is a bit awkward. Normally it's a << < > >> type (where << is first, and < is a one step increment). Then again, it would seem a bit redundant to have < > on the normal icon bar and then it duplicated on the page pick box though. It was done in around 10 minutes or so . I'm not against adding it to the command bar, but it might overflow buttons on smaller devices, so I'm hesitant to add more. But I could put refresh into the overflow (or add PTR to the webview, but it's a pain since you have to do it in the browser). But yeah, I'll iterate on it. And if you see something weird (webview, weird functionality, bug), let me know. Most of the true crashes I see in the Dev dashboard are SQLite crashes or OutOfMemory crashes in the 8.1 release. Two Things: 1. For the First/Last page thing, I changed it so they are all on the commandbar  Checked it on smaller phones and it didn't overflow, so I think it should be fine. I need better icons (using FontAwesome at the moment) but functionally wise it works. This design work? 2. New update was pushed and released last night. Adds some stability fixes, better handling of missing thread tags, and Xbox support.

Finally made the jump on my Lumia 640 to Windows 10 Mobile and installed the current version of the reader (12.2.3.0). In the thread list view, is there a way to disable the indicator for unread messages in a thread for only those threads I've read?

I believe the WP8 app uses the "Show an icon next to each post indicating if it has been seen or not" setting/button to detect if a post is new or not.

Because there was a time when that icon would not show up consistently when getting the page with HttpClient. If I recall correctly, it would render that stuff client side, and sometimes not appear when I parsed the page, causing crashes or page numbers to not appear. Using that setting produced more consistent, less crashy results. I could go back to it if it doesn't produce lovely results. It may be safe to use again.
