And you should play on p1999, cause both Live and other emu servers are lifeless husks full of boxers. I know, cause I've tried them too.

I am a goon in BDA. I've been really busy recently so haven't logged in. But BDA is pretty good and accepting of goons, as their Dear Leader is pretty much as goony as you can be without :10bux:

That said, I really do hope some goons go check this out cause it's a good time to be new on red and TMO is a great guild for players new to the high level scene.

Always thought there was a rule against a guide or GM playing on the same server while retaining their staff access on P1999. But apparently on red, there is a guide who is also free to play his normal character. Normally it wouldn't really be an issue, but considering Red99 gets almost no attention from GMs/guides in response to petitions regarding trains, LNS violations, spam, all around dickery(they do help out greatly with the corpse summons, bugs etc usually but the rest just sits there forever or gets deleted outright). Anyway, a few times now people have ran into this player, who apparently has the o-k to play and guide on red at the same time. I have heard a few incidents of people getting instantly suspended by said guide within minutes of an incident occurring to him or around him pvp or pve related. Just makes me curious, He can enforce the rules on the spot whenever he deems fit. But other people who have to deal with the same bs or worse, nothing. It wouldn't be so bad, but apparently hes very open about it to the point of sending tells on his non-guide character saying "see ya in 2 weeks!" before person gets suspended. I always remember this was a big no for the server, Maybe I misread and it was a GM-only thing. But on red, Suspensions still go a LONG WAY in creating issues. Obviously the staff are unpaid, deal with lots of bullshit they shouldn't have to put up with etc but I don't see how this isn't a conflict of interest. Yeah he cant summon items or do major stuff like a GM. but again, being able to suspend someone for a matter of time or indefinite until a GM can resolve an issue(on red this can take weeks or longer to resolve) it can put people out of play for a while. Hopefully just a few actual violations where the person did something rule breaking indeed otherwise when this person hits 60, no one will even dare go near this person unless they have multiple characters to play if one eats a suspension.

Wizards were pretty awesome group additions on vanilla p99 before rain spells got fixed and you had a group that could take advantage of this. Rains currently hit 4 times total and pets can eat these damage instances. Originally they were coded to hit up to 4 targets 3 times each. One or two wizards made mid level groups doing small AE pulls viable, and if you had a mage or druid helping it was even better. It took a good Sk, Pal, or Bard to maintain aggro to some degree while stuff was dying and to avoid moving mobs around too much (you could still hurt yourself if you stood inside the area of effect) but it was way faster xp when it worked. A Bard spam cancelling and playing the AE sleep/mez song was a particularly effective combo.

I like that the server is classic but I really enjoyed taking advantage of that mechanic before it got fixed. Spamming Frost storm in SolB royals and lightning storm in GY groups in MM was amazing.

The only race to go for rogue is barb. The high innate strength/stam trumps any innate skills because you level them up as you go, and it’s harder to cap that stuff out with leveling gear than it is to level sneak/hide while you sit around LFG/waiting for pulls. The only downfall is your starting area but you get a port to EC bind in FP and you’re good to go.

Stats > everything, always. You can only gain stats from gear after you put your default points in. Strength is the only stat that really matters for Backstabs.

Stat-wise for rogues you need to ignore the dex/agi suggestion and go str/sta. Str is top priority because that has a direct effect on your damage. Yes, you can easily reach 200+ str in gear and 255 with buffs, but the faster you reach that the more hp/resist/sta gear you can wear. Dex helps with procs (but most procs draw aggro which you don't want) and agi is mostly a concern if you drop below 75 (and all rogues start with at least 80 agi), so you can largely ignore those stats.

For starting stat allocation, str is better if you're untwinked or a laughably weak race (like halfling or gnome). However, sta might be a better use of starting stats (especially if you're barb or dwarf) because it's harder to max sta, however you won't see returns immediately.

My personal ranking for rogue races:
1. Dwarf - 2nd best in melee stats (str/sta), +5 mr, infravision, barrel roll.
2. Barbarian - 1st best in melee stats (str/sta), nightblind, polar bear hat.
3. Halfling - 4th best in melee stats (str/sta), infravision, exp bonus, furry feet.
4. Gnome - tied for 6th best in melee stats (str/sta), infravision, wallhack vision, cool factor (can wear skyshrine robe, velious watchman helm, etc).
5. Anything else - no, just no.

I agree, though I’ll take barb over dwarf because you get illusion masks that change the night blindness and your overall size

It seems the game Monsters and Memories is intentionally recreating EQ1. What are the easiest classes/roles to fill in a party in EQ1?

I posted a while back about advice on traveling around in EQ1 as a kind of MMO tourist; as someone who'd started with WoW I'd always wanted to go back and see the earlier game world. The advice I got then worked well and I visited most of the major cities and saw what it was like to level through a couple zones.

But the character I played (druid?) was rather "busy", that was an OK compromise soloing because it gave me a lot of utility, But I love playing mechanically simple classes in MMOs; my favorite in WoW is paladin because you just turn on your seal an auto attack, and then in a party you just heal the tank with the same spell over and over. I also prefer armor wearing characters over mages.

So, what are the easiest martial type classes to play in a group? My friends are almost certainly going to play M&M and I just want to chill out, watch the auto attack go or hit the one button repeatedly, and mostly just chat in discord.

Is warrior simple or am I going to have to work to keep aggro? That always deterred me from playing a tank in WoW, I don't like being the center of attention or the shot caller.

in non raid situations, your best tank was/is an enchanter charm pet, with a monk to OT/pull. Enchanter charm is absolutely loving insane. Chanter/Monk/Shaman/Bard/Cleric/Whatever. Rogues are pretty one/two button, but almost every class in EQ is pretty low button, and you can macro a few lines to do everything you need in a few small buttons. i would have my attack/hide/backstab macro'd to a single button, if M&M allows things like that, you can eventually set yourself for success and do exactly a one button press while bullshitting in discord.

P99 will be here for years to come, but has no QoL features at all, everything is designed to be as accurate to the classic EQ1 experience as possible, for better and for worse. Examples: there is no built-in minimap/map, your class' epic quest may take a literal year of playing to complete, loot is rare and scarce.

Quarm is a more recent entrant, was booming, but has less stable management and more of a focus on making the classic EQ1 experience more comfortable. Examples are increased drop rates on quest items, rare spawns, etc. Also the server will go to PoP, not stop at Velious, so if you want to play a cat or raid in PoP that's the only option

Basically, if you want that QoL, and some movement and timeline into modernity, wait about a month, they have 25th anniversary TLPs coming on live EQ, if you want to be locked to PoP with the QoL changes, that's Quarm.

I think that old Al'Kabor server is still around too? or am i wrong there?
