I can certainly agree with that- I mean look at KSBD, and Undertale- they both sprang from that and went off and became more.

Yeah that's what makes it so sad- the dog most certainly didn't comprehend the reasoning behind it being beaten but it's an understandable response. That and it would have a good chance of keeping the dog away in the future. I mean how else are they supposed to keep it out? It literally hopped a fence and ripped through the enclosure.

Keep in mind I will never condone beating a dog.

Plus, these days, do that many people use aggregator sites? Even among the small webcomics I read, I only see a few 'vote for me on topwebcomics', and even that seems futile, as all the top spots are occupied by stuff that, at least from the outside, seems like garbage and porn comics.

I mean you have stuff like Hiveworks still floating around and seem to work pretty well. Webrings and the like are long dead now though, though I kind of miss them.

I have no problem with the edit, actually. And the way they responded to the criticism was pretty much perfect- no apology would ever be good enough to avoid a dogpile. Showing remorse and weakness will stop nothing, even if it is sincere.

People on the internet will never, ever pass up a chance to whip themselves up into a self righteous dervish.

I'll just start ticking down the days until this thread has tired itself of throwing useless little censures against a comic half of us never read in the first place. I give it about five days- more if the author does something in that time.

You know why it's useless? Because there are actual problems in the world, and this is the thing people are getting worked up about. It's the same phenomenon as gamergate- there might be a legitimate issue at the heart of it, but the only reason people give a poo poo is because it's butted it's way into the all encompassing world of their entertainment and it's an easy target. It's useless because given the perspective of the world we live in making a case against this is a hilariously hollow and wasted effort. That is the entire reason the argument is funny- noone in this thread would give a poo poo if it didn't happen in a webcomic.

This is a thread about webcomics. It's unlikely that we'd just start talking about social problems generally. But when one involves a webcomic, it wouldn't be surprising for it to come up? Gamergate is a movement about beating up on women for daring to exist in public and endlessly hounding and harassing them, whereas this seems to be people being annoyed at an artist's casual racism, so I don't see much of a correlation? I guess I'm not real clear on what you're arguing here.

That's fair- gg isn't the best comparison, but the first that popped into my head of "things the internet gets frothing mad about that does fuckall and actually actively makes things worse."
