the thing is, i disagree with the greens just as much as i do with the democrats as a democratic socialist, i support nuclear power and genetically modified foods because i want to end global warming and feed poor people, as it turns out. why are the greens still dumb about those issues? if i'm voting for a candidate that i don't agree with i'd rather vote for one who has a chance at winning.

Great job supporting the cunty two party system we currently have. Destroy all choice! gently caress the greens, and while you are at it make sure you are prepared against the future blue and yellow parties. gently caress them all instead of making a slight attempt at understanding. You don't need a dialogue, you just need to WIN!!!

ill start un making GBS threads on the retarded greens when they start cooperating with smaller parties on issues of interest and putting together joint candidates, raise money from donations, and actually do something somewhere for something instead of sucking up votes

Basically the rule with political groups is the less power they have, the more infighting there will be. People who can't get along with anyone will actively seek out these tiny groups because they can get attention without having to actually accomplish anything. In the old days it was the Trotskyites and other wacky reds derailing these lefty groups, but communism is passe these days. The Greens often seem like little more than an amalgamation of all the weird little fringe-left ideologies that didn't get discredited in 1989 and still couldn't find a home with the Democrats.

I feel like any personal views I have that align with the Green Party in the US is purely coincidental, because everytime I hear Jill Stein speak I just imagine her going home to huff her own farts like on that episode of south park, and their attitudes about vaccines and new age crockery is just alienating to people who don't like the smell of patchouli oil.

Yeah, the funny thing about the "what party do you match" polls is they go by national platforms when the big tent parties have inherently compromised platforms. Things like gay marriage, gun control, and environmental protections can take years to make it onto the national platform (and sometimes disappear again mysteriously) even if most Democrats support them because there will be a vocal minority (not to mention swing voters) who they won't risk alienating. This makes the big parties seem weak and wishy-washy, but it also is what allows them to actually accomplish anything within the current political framework. The party itself may be painfully centrist, but there are still millions of Democratic voters (and some fairly successful politicians) who would fit quite comfortably within the Green spectrum. In fact, I'd go as far to say that there are far more Democrats with Green sympathies than there are actual Greens. It's just that most of us prefer candidates who A) can get elected and B) have a clue what to do when that happens and people who spend their time hanging out on the fringes living and breathing radical ideology and wagging their fingers at everyone else are rarely capable of either.

In my country the Green Party is/was also the refuge of the intellectual liberals and independents. It is truly horrifying that to vote for someone actually intelligent AND benevolent you have to give your vote to the loving Greenpeace/PETA/ALF/City green no-industry ever asshat party. So I vote for the mild conservative right instead, even though sometimes it makes me vomit in my mouth. The Scottish Greens are okay, apart from being twitchy on nuclear power, but then again the Scottish regional parliament has a reasonable voting system so you can actually be a member of the Greens without needing an electoral death-wish first
