PSWII60 posted:Turok was easily my favorite series on this system, and the sequel was probably my favorite N64 game. I definitely played it more than Goldeneye, single player at least. Multiplayer leaves something to be desired, but we'll get to that eventually. The jumps in the first game are killer. When I played this when it first came out, it took me quite a while to make an art of using the mini-map as a jump guide, and learning the fine art of getting a few more feet on your jumps through diagonal jumping. Although, the original Turok and it's jump puzzles are the reason why I have NO problem going through any modern FPS/Adventure game jump section. So...thanks Turok! A Curvy Goonette posted:It's kind of surprising how long they make you deal with the auto shotty and assault rifle as your only real weapons. Considering all the insane poo poo you get later. There are some pretty badass weapons in these games if memory serves. The Chronoscepter was nifty, but......The Strangelove Cannon or whatever it's name was still my favorite from the first. The second game though, that's an entirely different can of worms. A lot of FUN weapons in that one. Glad I came back to see this LP. Bringing back good memories. Thanks OP!

There was something along the lines of, Since you should be a Turok Master by now you don't need us to hold your hand anymore. Wouldn't even show the locations of the Chronoscepter pieces, just a screenshot that shows the piece in game and says look for this area. I've actually got both of those somewhere stashed away. If you'd like I could try and locate them and post those helpful hints for the levels you beat (after the fact of course so as not to spoil anything major), with screencaps.

I'm sorry, but can I just say that I LOVE the music for Level 4 - Ruins? Also, I found something out from my handy dandy guide book (that I still need to scan up upload some poo poo from). Enemies will only respawn a set number of times! Acclaim's Bey Bickerton posted:Enemies can teleport back to an area a random number of times. Specific enemies have higher teleportation variables (for example, Leapers as opposed to Soldiers). Say, if a Soldier has a teleportation number of three, and you kill him twice your first time through an area, he should be there again if you return to that level. If you kill him three times the first time through, he won't return.

Am I the only one that really enjoyed Seeds of Evil, (headshot gimmick included), and possibly enjoyed the Razor Wind more as a weapon than the Cerebral Bore? Plus I remember Seeds of Evil having some type of anti-cheat script in place, where if you used cheat codes, you got a really lovely ending, (or am I remembering that one wrong?), which was awesome and hilarious, considering I didn't legit beat the game on hard until some years after it's release. Also, there was a way to cheat, and play the single player campaign with a friend and use the multiplayer characters. (Except it would bug out if you entered a teleporter ) Anyway, I loved Dinosaur Hunter, but really just didn't like the aesthetics of the final two levels all that much. But despite not really liking the way the levels looked, man they were so, so FUN. Love these first two games. It's like reliving a bit of my childhood here. Thanks PSWII60. I do agree that it's slower and requires more duck and cover gameplay compared to the first one's more action oriented gameplay. It is a bit glitchier and more oddly designed, I remember things like Oy, the Plasma Rifle in 2 is HORRID. All it is is just a pure sniper rifle, (Which is made null by the fact that once you get the Tek Bow, you can snipe with normal arrows, as using the scope on the bow eliminates most of the downward arrow trajectory AND you can recover arrows!) Curious as to what space you're referring to. But Razor Wind. Seriously. (Also, I tried to find a gif of it, but every search I did brought up pokemon or something?????) How can you beat this weapon? ....oh yeah, you can butcher it like Turok 3 did.

Oh well, here's hoping they do a bit more with this!

Also, for a comment on the actual level. The first 2/3 (?) of the level I thought were pretty cool, and a new twist. However, that being said. I don't know. This level is just....just too BROWN AND ORANGE. But then again it has blaster powered Raptors. Which raises it's cool points by a factor of 10 at least, and then lets not forget the best weapon in the game.

Wow, the video does that a LOT more justice than those couple of stills. Still, I'm slightly disappointed in the lack of updated models, BUT, the simple fact that the areas look amazing, and literally no fog that I can see....will certainly be playing the hell out of this. Also, did they up the framerate? Because Turok seems like he's bobbing a little fast there at the end haha.

If 2's remake is going to be as good as this then i'm totally excited for it. The one thing to watch out for is that since the game overall runs much faster, the enemies also move around and shoot much faster. Please tell me the spiritual invincibility glitch that gives enemies double speed is still a thing. That would be fun.

If 2's remake is going to be as good as this then i'm totally excited for it. The one thing to watch out for is that since the game overall runs much faster, the enemies also move around and shoot much faster. Ok, I picked this up. Here's a brief lowdown of the first level and part of the third. First off, the controls are silky smooth as is everything else graphically wise. Runs fine, and sounds great! Now, there are your standard Easy, Normal and Hard difficulties, which seem to have the same rules as in the 64 version. Also enemy speed is slightly increased on Hard, and they have more HP than in the 64 version (Ancient Warriors take at least 5 bullets to kill now.). Then there's an extra difficulty, HARDCORE. It ain't bullshitting. Enemies soak up more damage, deal more damage, and move twice as fast. It's seriously like having the Spiritual Invincibility glitch from the 64 version (which is NOT present), on all the time, but even faster. You can't outrun Raptors anymore. You can't constantly backup to avoid all their attacks. Their leap attacks and normal animations are so fast, they hit you always. The first raptor kicked my rear end On top of THAT, the normal "weak" enemies, move so fast it's hard to hit them, and grenadiers are far more accurate, and are rapid-fire tossing those fuckers out. This is going to be a challenge. Interesting to note though, is that you can change difficulty at any point in the game. Which is nifty. Also completely new area in level 1 which replaces the area with the Auto-Shotty and 2nd key. Now completely different, and from my limited exploration, the Auto-Shotgun is nowhere to be found. Overall a good investment, and I'm going to enjoy beating this thing on Hardcore, even if it does seem a bit like a BS difficulty.

Well just finished beating the new Turok on Hardcore. Very fun, mostly. A few changes here and there, but overall a similar experience! The bosses on Hardcore thankfully don't have the double speed of the normal enemies, which really makes them chumps. With the exception of the Longhunter's Humvee's, which can actually shoot at, and hit you during their opening cutscene A few glitches and oversights too. Mostly in level 7 oddly enough. The key symbol on the beginning and end level portals shows the level 3 symbol, and there are TWO chronoscepter pieces in the level. (Both are the same piece, so you can't assemble it early if you collect both. Which, not sure if this is an oversight, or intentional, but I'm betting on the latter! Speaking of the Chronoscepter......while I don't want to spoil the weapon, let's just say it's damage output is completely different than the N64 version. Let's just put it this way. 3 shots. More than enough to kill anything that moves. (minus those monkeys). So definitely go pick it up. The sale is still on!

PSWII60 posted:Oh right I have a thread, Update time. Nice. Glad to see the Lost Land put to pasture! Always curious as to why they placed 2 Chronoscepter pieces in this level. Oversight? Or perhaps just generosity? Who knows! The place in which you acquired the 2nd key. The Spiritual Invincibility, AND some Tek Armor are available there even on Hard mode, on the raised areas near the corridor leading out of that room. You have to jump from the metal platform with the key on it down to them though, in a bit of a tricky jump. Now here's a rumor that I'm wondering if you can prove or debunk. I was uploading my stream of the Remastered version, and on one of the videos somebody commented that if you use the knife dead center on the BACK of an enemy, it's an insta-kill. Never tested this, not sure if I have the patience to, but curious if it's true!

Y-Hat posted:Do they fix the Spiritual Invincibility glitch in the remastered version? Yes. Although, they have an extra difficulty called Hardcore, which speeds all enemies up to the same Super level.....ALL THE TIME. Plus, you know, the normal damage buffs they have and a reduction of damage you do. (Normal arrows are far more precious, useful and rare than Tek). As for this level. Level 8 is really the only stage that I did really care for. Such a long level, and mostly all bullshit. The saving grace is the near plethora of Explosive Shells laying around. But seriously, gently caress Cyborg Sergeants.

HOOLY BOOLY posted:So Turok 2 finally re-released today and trying to play it on my old as poo poo PC turned out kinda expected results so i mess with a few graphics settings to see if i could get it to run at a better framerate and uh...This is the result Here's a direct link: http://store.steampowered.com/app/405830/ FYI, if you have Turok 1 Remaster in your Steam library, you get 25% ($5) off of Turok 2! This game is great. Talked with one of the guys that worked on the project last night during a stream I did, there is so much work that went into this, it's mind boggling. (FYI the guy I spoke with was the one that designed the "Lair of Oblivion" MP map, as well as the main person behind getting the raptor skin from the Beta demo of the original game to be used for the raptors in this game!). They sharpened the graphics, increased the gore, gave the option of using the N64 or the PC soundtrack, and the changes they made to the multiplayer mode are great.

The Mantid Hive is insane. Hardcore mode is no joke. Those damned soldiers are BEASTLY. Thankfully the workers and the mites fall incredibly easy to the firestorm cannon, and there's no shortage of Energy Cells in this level! That being said, I can't wait to see how much easier tracking down those Primagen keys is going to be with the warp function using the checkpoint stations. So far this is incredible. Next up, Talon/Warblade only hard mode!

Blind Sally posted:finally had some more time to play this and got back to the Mantid Hive--I think I'd blocked this level out. i mean, i remember playing it, but i don't remember it being so loving long. awesome level, but holy poo poo is it overwhelming! the flamethrower is also pretty good at wiping out the various mites and workers fast, and it also makes drones run in agony and pain keeping them off your back long enough to hit them with something else. (PFM Layer is also great at taking out large groups of mites and workers. Drop one, kite them back into it, and they all drop dead in a single blast). Yeah, that's the one thing I wish they would've done. A little more playtesting on it. Some of the patches are fixes for some obvious issues...namely some of the earlier patches. Oh well, it's still a blast to humiliate people and make them rage quit in multiplayer with the BORE. So far I've been blocked on there by 4 people, and called a prick more than a couple of times, from simply spamming the cerebral bore, often going 20-0. It makes me happy Course, it probably doesn't help my cause that the name they see for me is beholdmysausage, but whatever.
