I have an old Core 2 that's been approved for the update but its motherboard is even further out of support than my Sandy Bridge (which got through fine) and I'm almost sure the Core 2 doesn't have Windows 8 drivers for a lot of things. It'll give you 3 days if you tell it to wait. Or, if Windows Update downloads it first, it'll be just 1 reboot away.

I recently had to do not one but two Resets on my desktop. The first one was due to weird drivers causing multiple bugs, the second was because CrashPlan installed to the Program Files directory (NOT to its own folder) and somehow deleted multiple other programs when I tried to fix a server issue with it by uninstall/reinstalling. Anyway, all of that aside: When I did my Resets, I let Windows install whatever drivers it wanted. Then after that was done, I installed NVIDIA's Win 10 drivers for the 700 Series and it was fine afterwards.

This privacy thing is going to hurt MS and Windows 10 much more than the forced driver updates. Heck, if you're able to disconnect the drive with the boot config, you may be able to run bcdboot without needing to get into the recovery environment. What does work for me is putting it back into sleep (laptop, so just pushing the power button or closing the lid for me), and then waking it up again - the display wakes up again as it should, until it goes into power save again. This only started after updates last week, one of which was for my graphics card, so that's the likely culprit. It's an Intel Iris 5100 or something like that, running on a MacBook pro. Karthe posted:I was having this issue with my laptop after reinstalling Windows 10 a couple of days ago. Skarsnik posted:I also had sleep crashing issues with the intel ME, but switching to the ones installed by windows update and ditching the older intel ones actually fixed it for me I'm on a desktop and I don't think I have those drivers.
