Yeah I'm finding the new update to be a lot smoother and nicer. So far nothing is broke apart from the super hacky things you'd expect to break (e.g. Glass8, 7 Taskbar Tweaker), and the fluent stuff combined with WinAero tweaker is starting to make Glass8 less necessary. Note: I did a "keep personal files only" install. Upgrades may well be poo poo.

Looks like build 17133 isn't going to be the release version after all! https://www.theregister.co.uk/2018/04/17/waiting_for_windows_10/ Edit: Other sources say it's 17133 is the release version, with a massive day one update to 17133.73 to fix the bugs. But 17133 got sent to manufacturers, so someone's going to be royally pissed off right now! For those non-insiders like me who installed 17133, here's the patch and instructions, if you just want to stick with it until the final build is definite: https://www.tenforums.com/windows-10-news/106880-kb4100375-windows-10-insider-slow-rp-build-17133-73-apr-10-a-69.html Lum fucked around with this message at 23:41 on Apr 17, 2018 |

Yeah, like they literally gave 17133 images to Dell and HP and so-on to load onto machines about to ship.

Yeah 1803 is fine on my lappy too. Hell of an improvement over the last build. Sucks for those with the BSODs I guess, but I like it,

So I can't get 1803 to install on my HTPC. It's a 1st gen Core i7-920 on an Asus P6T deluxe V2 (X58 chipset), so I suspect it may have something to do with the lack of spectre/meltdown update, but it gives. 0xC1900101 - 0x20017 The installation failed in the SAFE_OS phase with an error during BOOT operation. setuperr.log contains: code:

redeyes posted:I've been able to fix that kind of failure by deleting C:\$WINDOWS.~BT\ entirely. Worth a try. Didn't work, even booting off USB doesn't work. It seems a lot of X58 users are having this problem with 1803. Guess I'm sticking with the old version indefinitely?

SwissArmyDruid posted:Trying a little something new. Since I've got an 32:9 ultrawide now, I figure, "why continue to do things the old way and waste space along the bottom of the monitor, making every window artificially shorter? Let's try dragging the taskbar to the left or the right." Short of replacing the entire taskbar there isn't really a way to do this. I ended up using DisplayFusion Pro with an advanced setting to enable the DF taskbar on all monitors and a third party app to get rid of the OS taskbar. Then I gave up on all that poo poo and just learned to deal with the start button being at the top. With the stock vertical taskbar, if you hate wasted space, you should probably also install 7+ Taskbar Tweaker and enable the no_width_limit tweak to allow you to make the taskbar narrower. It also allows you to get rid of the ugly AF show desktop button that no-one uses any more.

Some multi monitor issues. This is my work laptop which, a Dell Precision E-something with the E-View pro dock. It is still running 16299 and I have no say on when it updates. I have a pair of Hazro HZ26Wi monitors and also use the laptop screen. When the monitors go into powersave mode, they show the "going to sleep message" then turn off the backlights, upon turning off the system plays the device disconnect sound, immediately followed by the device connect sound, and the backlight on my primary monitor turns back on. When I wake up the system, everything on my secondary monitor has moved to the primary. Stuff on the laptop screen is unaffected. It's annoying AF. Currently I'm using an autohotkey script pinned to the taskbar to move things, but is there a proper fix? Also someone in this thread about 40 pages back posted a piece of software that sorts out the issue with the mouse pointer crossing to a new monitor of a different size, making it so you can line them up and have the pointer cross to the correct physical location. Anyone remember what that was called?

So regarding the issue with windows getting repositioned as my monitor powers down (which wasn't a problem in XP, which is what I was running when I bought these monitors in 2008) I ended up using this little utility which repositions the windows when the monitor comes back: http://www.ninjacrab.com/persistent-windows/ Not having much luck with LittleBigMouse though. As soon as I enable it, it blocks any attempt at crossing the monitor border at all.

Unfortunately my problem is on a work laptop with an Optimus and Dell e-view dock, so replacing cards isn't really an option They're also hooked up DVI-DVI, which is odd given most folk are reporting this as a DP issue. That little utility I linked sorts the problem out well enough though.

So ages back in this thread I was complaining that 1803 wouldn't install on my X58 / Core i7 system. Finally found a solution, disabling VT-d made it work, for some reason.
