Let's all rewatch G Gundam! Mobile Fighter G Gundam first aired way back in 1994. It was the very first Alternate Universe Gundam, eschewing the backstory of the Universal Century for the brand new Future Century. In this odd future, most of mankind has abandoned the Earth to live in space colonies. As war would be kind of sort of really deadly when space is just outside, these colonies instead settle their disputes by sending a bunch of Gundams to Earth to duke it out. The winner's country of origin is then declared ruler of Earth for the next four years, and then the cycle continues. Got all of that?  Good because basically none of that really matters. Directed by Yasuhiro Imagawa (*insert Giant Robo plug here*), G Gundam is actually the story of Domon Kasshu maturing from a manchild who can only punch things to a functional adult who is capable of not punching things. Along the way he meets a cast of colorful characters (with even more colorful Gundams), confronts the mighty Okay, so why should I rewatch this? Because it's a good show. Not the best of Imagawa's works, to be certain (it really didn't need to be 49 episodes long), but definitely a fun experience. The dub and its glorious cheese only improves the experience, which is good because that's what we're watching. Uh, is a Youtube playlist really the best choice? Well unless you want to shell out like $400 for the DVD boxset, there's no other legal option. Though if the official Gundam youtube channel suddenly decides to put the show back on its rotation, you should definitely use that. So how is this going to work? I guess we could all just shotgun through it at our own paces, but I've honestly never been a fan of shotgunning shows. So instead we're going to watch two episodes a day! That should let us finish in a month, and hopefully encourage people to actually talk about the show. I literally could not care less about a more than 20 year old show, TELL ME ABOUT THE TOYS The joke's on you because there are none.  G Gundam may have been a hit in the West, but it was an absolute flop in Japan. Its reputation has since been improved by the efforts of the Super Robot Wars franchise, but to this day your choices for quality model kits and action figures are ridiculously limited.  Only four designs made it into the modern High Grade line, and I'm not going to lie: the kits are sort of eh. Way better than what was actually being sold when the show was airing, that's for sure, but nothing compared to  the recent line of Robot Spirits action figures! Last year was the 20th anniversary of G Gundam, so a bunch of figures were displayed. Who knows how many will actually be released for general sale, though. Are these Robot Spirit things really worth blowing out my bank account for? Honestly? No.  But they're definitely miles above the HGs, that's for sure. Okay so is there a schedule like all those other simulwatches? NO SCHEDULES ARE FOR WIMPS I dunno, I don't actually expect this to work out. Let's just play it by ear and see what happens. If you miss a day, don't worry about it and just skip to where everyone else is at. So is there a rule for spoilers? Well the thing's called let's rewatch G Gundam, so no. It's interesting that the policeman in episode 1 has the same voice actor as Master Asia. Or at leas tthat's what ti sounds like to me. The first episode is really good: you can already get the majore themes of the show just from the old policeman's speech.
