The new contest is here and ready to rock! It's late summer, if you're not a total goon you've probably been enjoying some time outdoors. Our theme this round is Nature. A category as vast and expansive as the Earth, the song you choose can be about anything found in the great outdoors. Wilderness, weather, whales, buttes, blue skies, birds, trees, tornadoes, tigers... There are so many possibilities!

Get hippy dippy and do an acoustic cover, give it your personal electronic touch, use only the sounds of sticks and a whistle made from a hollow reed; all cover styles are welcome. We've got to coexist after all.

If you need some inspiration, just go outside you dingus! This is a big category, find a song you like!

Deadline is October 1st.

Does it have to sound professional or anything?
Nope. You don't need fancy interfaces or access to a studio, just the ability to sit down and jam out a cover on whatever you got. Sure, production quality is good, but actually completing an entry is even better. So grab what you got and start laying down some tracks. There are plenty of resources in the Musicians Lounge if you need assistance with your setup or are having any technical issues.

Where should I host the music?
Soundcloud. Just make sure you allow people to download your music from Soundcloud, since some people like to load the music up on their iPod. Plus, that way, you don't need to worry about your internet connection when you're trying to make love to that special someone, or something, or KFC basket of Chicken Wings.

I really really really want to win. What's the secret?
First of all, settle down there chief. It ain't about winning. However, winning is simple, actually. Follow my three simple rules:
Pick a song that people have actually heard of. This isn't a time to establish your indie cred.
Switch up the genres in a funny way. Make a reggae version of a hard rock song. Do "Take the A Train" in the style of Kraftwerk's "Autobahn". Please don't turn a rap song into a mellow acoustic ballad. Straight covers rarely win because lets face it, you're no David Cassidy, and I think you know it.
Get off your fat butt and actually record something. Don't wait until the deadline. Thinking about it won't make it happen.

As long as it has some mention of something about the Nature, that's fine. Kept the category broad hoping it would be easier for people to find something they like.

My Meadowlark/Blue Spotted Tail mash-up didn't work out like I had hoped, so I'm sticking to just Blue Spotted Tail. I'm pretty happy with how it sounds right now, going to leave it alone for a few days and see if I still like it.

Eleven days till the deadline! Unless there are only like two entries completed it would be great to finish on the actual deadline.

Here are the entries so far. Still waiting on magnificent7, Hawklad, CaptainViolence, and COOL CORN.

Four entries makes a pretty small contest, so the deadline is extended to October 8th. I will be posting the contest late at night on the 8th.

Any thoughts on where it should go this time?
