Of all the TNG alumni, Wil Wheaton is probably the only one who would actually be capable right now of making an independent fan series that didn't suck completely, but thankfully he's also probably the least likely to want to.

My favorite thing about that DS9 arc is that we find out it's trivially easy to make entire planets uninhabitable to humans with one ship in a matter of minutes and yet somehow the entire Alpha Quadrant hasn't been turned into a death zone yet.

My theory is that Earth is only a utopia in Star Trek because Section 31 is using space drugs to keep the entire planet in a satisfied, passive, unambitious stupor. The ambitious people all get channelled into Starfleet where they can be shipped off to space to get blown up by borgs or whatever.

This explains why there's no new culture beyond what was public domain in 1989; everyone on the planet is just too dull to produce any worthwhile art, they're too busy playing Sherlock Holmes and The Case Of the Risan Vixens in the holosuite.

Shatner didn't do too bad for himself.

Meaney is one of those guys who got solid work as a character actor before Trek and continues to afterward. He's one of the lucky ones. There's a bunch of Trek alumni who seem to subsist on convention fees. Like what has Terry Farrell done since DS9 ended? http://www.imdb.com/name/nm0000395/?ref_=nv_sr_1

It's cool to see Siddig getting work though: http://www.imdb.com/name/nm0796502/?ref_=nv_sr_2

Nah, I think a lot of it is the bullshit 24 or Ender's Game hosed-up it's worth being evil to defend America/Space America morality, too. And of course they envision themselves being one of the few who could make the hard choice to do nasty poo poo.

For all of Orson Scott Card's flaws (he has many) and as terrible as his writing gets (it's awful), the whole point of the first two Ender books was actually that the humans behaved monstrously and committed genocide and Ender basically becomes a figure synonymous with evil. Though I'm sure a lot of people read the first book and just thought "yeah, cool, blow up the aliens!" and didn't get how morally monstrous the twist ending is supposed to be.

BSG isn't a DS9 Equivalent, it's a Voyager reboot.
