I'm kind of disappointed that you need to press a button to bring up Siri. The Amazon Echo shows that you can do always on listening well with current tech.

Seems like a cool toy at $150. Certainly improves on the $99 Apple TV we already have.

Don't see why anyone would get the 64 GB one.

Actually the Google photo animations are pretty drat cool, it made a bunch of ones out of just a bunch of photos taken in quick succession even years ago.

Yeah, it's neat how it can turn a burst of photos into a movie too. Surprised Apple didn't do something with that.

Yeah, the upgrade plans seems like the same AT&T Next 12, which is $32 for a 16 GB iPhone 6. Except you get AppleCare+. Sort of, since one of the features of AppleCare is extending the warranty to two years, and you wouldn't get that.

Well, you are never going to sell the phone, so unlocked is only useful if you switch carriers pretty often.

Here's how the 12 month plans like AT&T Next 12 work:

After 20 payments you pay off phone. So monthly is $650 / 20 = $32.50
After 12 payments, you can turn it in and you don't owe anything. You paid $12 x $32.50 = $390, so you are getting $260 for your phone, which is probably a bit below market rate.

Apple's twist is to include AppleCare+ but don't charge for it. But since AppleCare+ lasts for two years, and you are selling the phone after a year, it's not really worth the full $100.

But all things considered, I don't see why you would go with the carrier plans anymore if you want the 12 month replacement.

Edit: In this state, you also have to pay $40 in sales tax every year, which sucks. That's a whole extra payment.

The other weird thing about the upgrade program:

quote:

You can spread the cost over 24 months, with the option to get a new iPhone after 12 payments.

It would make no sense to keep it for 24 months, since you would pay more than the cost of the phone.

Some people can't afford to pay for a $800 phone up front. Do you not understand the appeal of payment plans?

It's a $650 16 GB iPhone 6S for $32.41 a month. After 24 months you will pay $777.84.

AT&T will sell you the same exact phone for $32.50 and it will be paid off after 18 months, for a total of $650.

That's the part that doesn't make sense to me.

What does the TV looking button (next to Menu) on the Apple TV remote do?

Oh, it's Home. Intuitive.

It would have been really cool if the Apple TV charged the remote via inductive charging. Maybe next time.

I think the other "catch" on the Apple upgrade plan is that if you don't actually upgrade after 12 months, then it costs you the full price of the phone plus AppleCare+ after 24 months. If you don't normally get AppleCare+, maybe not a good deal.

Also, it would be pretty easy for the carriers to increase the phone plan cost for unlocked phones. If they were feeling spiteful.
