Jeez, so far we've seen two groups who use revival magic and they seem like huge jerks? First the guys who revive downed parties for a fee and don't bother warning them of dangers ahead so they'll die again, and now the old man who uses his hired guards as meat shields.

There's also a big difference in how we perceive death versus how people in-universe perceive it. People have the power to raise the dead, and dungeon crawling as an industry has been going on long enough that multiple characters we've seen have an almost lackadaisical reaction when someone dies because they can always be revived, even though most people know the risks involved. Laius is pretty much a big weirdo, but he's also correct that rushing in without having a plan (especially for basic stuff like what you're gonna eat) is gonna do more harm than good. The dungeon itself takes days/weeks to get through to the level that they were at when Farlyn was eaten.
