Yes, you can turn off the specific FA voice over in the audio settings, or be like me and mute the voice entirely. It actually feels way more immersive (more BSG than Star Trek), and the voice is unnecessary after figuring out the game.

Well, they didn't mention it specifically, but multicrew basically confirms ship naming. I'm wondering how it will work when one member of a crew is wanted before joing a ship that isn't wanted. And what will happen if you're in an SRV/Fightercraft with no FSD and your mothership gets blown up (or just wanders away/logs off.)

I get the feeling it will end up being a "you teleport onto the ship when joining a crew" sort of deal, because I don't see how they could overcome these sorts of things otherwise.

e: Also there's the question of how rewards and such will be split or if only the ship owner will be rewarded for stuff (which I think is unlikely but we are talking about :frontear: here.)

They've talked before that they want reputation to be more ship-specific so that a bounty would follow a ship and not necessarily a player (at least before a bounty scan, I imagine). Think of buying a really good price anaconda because the seller needed it gone fast, but it means you'll be hunted down for a while.

If someone already had ED and then bought the lifetime expansion pass when it was available, would they have an extra copy of the ED base game to give to a friend?

It already can generate rings, so there's no reason it can't do it on a larger scale for accretion disks. The only new thing it would have to do is distort local in-system items (such as the accretion disk or other stars). Once that's done it'd look pretty much just like Interstellar.

Beyond that, it'd be cool if they could model plasma flow between two close stars.

Stay close to cover. Never go in the open, that's where sidewinder does best. And use power ups. Like nonstop. Just keep going back for power ups.

What's the consensus on reverse throttle controls on a HOTAS? I'm currently using my X52 as a full range forward throttle, with a reverse toggle button for reverse thrusters. Looking at Youtube vids of folks mastering FA mode makes me think that having throttle forward/half reverse might be better, as well as free up the toggle button for something else. I hope these words make sense to space nerds.

I started out with a THRUSTMASTER HOTAS X and upgraded to a 52pro, so it was a no brainer for me set my new throttle up as a forward/reverse because that's how my old one was. It makes CQC a lot easier because you can do reverse barrel rolls with FA off really fast and feel like a badass (especially if you thrust vertically at the same time). The only issue I have is the X52 has no friction in the middle, so I just set up a small dead-zone of about 8% and my brain figured out pretty fast where the throttle equals zero. It's actually kind of cool because the little friction click it does at high speeds (both forward and reverse) are now exactly where the blue ends in my velocity, so I know exactly where my best maneuverability is.

I hope that was enough nerd-talk and helped you out a bit.

Shield cell banks are dumb but they're a symptom of the problem instead of the cause, IMO.

The cause is that multirole ships, especially the larger ones, often have less shielding than ships with 1/10th the volume. The only way to bridge this gulf is by allowing these ships to recharge their shields mid-flight with their bountiful cell banks.

If you limit them to one per ship or remove them entirely, you'll pretty much stop seeing things larger than Vultures or Couriers in PVP.

A real fix would be to just give the larger ships a ton more shields, or rework recharge rates, possibly both.

Yeah, I think the best solution is that larger shield size -> sturdier shields. Also, make it so damage isn't nerfed depending on the size of your opponent. Really, the way they went about it is about as backwards as I can imagine (Shields are all basically the same or worse on big ships, but little weapons do less damage to big ships) :frontear:

Got a question here about CZs:

I want to increase my standing with the Federation. I just found a conflict zone featuring two parties both affiliated with the Federation. If I choose to blow up one Federation-affiliated ship on behalf of an opposing Federation-affiliated ship, will my net Federal standings change be negative? Does it affect it at all? Also, if I get a bulletin board mission to kill civilians, can I satisfy that in a conflict zone featuring an independent faction?

Your federation rank never goes down, but your standing can. So you can go from allied to neutral but still get naval progression missions. I'm pretty sure getting involved in a fed vs fed battle will lower your standing. Of course running a few missions would just raise it back up. I don't think independents in CZs count as civilians.

Just like bounty, factions literally do not matter at all. You can get as emotionally attached as you want and cry on the frontier forums about how you accidentally got a 100 credit bounty in your home system and now the game is ruined, or you can fly to the next system. If your pet faction tanks... Who cares? Once your aggressors back off, feel free to fix that factions influence. If somebody in solo tanks your pet station's economy, why cry about it? It'll bounce back within a few days. One of the major unchanging points of this game is that there will never be played owned stations or territories, which means that we only have a minor influence on what happens. There's an op by the diamond frogs right now to tank someone else's group. It's working and that's cool. But in a few weeks they'll have it back up where they want it and that's cool too.
