I'm in the mood for some different schlocky trash.

Recommend me a reverse isekai. Doesn't have to be anime, manga and light novels are fine too.

For context about my bad taste - I genuinely enjoyed (most of) Sword Art Online.

Two different ends of the reverse isekai nonsense spectrum: Thermae Romae and Female Knight Showed Up (some more words in that title, i ain't typing all that). and yeah, Pairipi Koumei / Ya Boy Kongming(!!!) is also worth a read/watch.

I've been enjoying a lot of the manga recommendations I got from this thread earlier for romance-y stuff that's actually got the romance happening more than just endless will-they won't-they and is somewhat low on fan service (though sexual themes and poo poo are a-ok for me - I'm just not super into, like, gratuitous panty shots outside of explicitly intimate scenes or actual erotica or pornography. If I'm seeing someone naked in this context I want it to have a narrative as well as titillating purpose). I think I also asked for adult protags in particular and for manga about relationships rather than just courtship, and I think I said it was cool whatever combo of people the main couple was. I got a buncha great recs for straight couples and a buncha great yuri recs, so this time I'm explicitly asking for recs for gay male romance or rom-com type manga that otherwise meets my criteria. Hit me with your faves.

I'm also thinking about posting some thoughts and reactions about the recommendations I got that I've read - do you think that makes more sense here or in the shoujo/josei/romance thread? I guess I will just post once I have enough time at the keyboard to get my thoughts together.

every once in a while i try to look around for good m/m romances, but at least in my limited experience it's harder to find one of those that isn't super formulaic than it is for f/f pairings, despite the output being much larger for the former. maybe i'm just not searching in the right places, but once you move past the by-the-numbers uke/seme stuff, most of the quality outliers will be set in high school, spend ages in will-won't-they territory, or both, so i'd appreciate suggestions as well.
i haven't gotten around to reading My Brother's Husband, but I hear it's good, and somewhat related to that, Dad, the Beard Gorilla, and I is not m/m but clearly relies on the appeal of its male leads.

Lots of romantic comedies have the setup where the male lead is a comparatively subdued, passive, and practical man, who's brought by coincidence into contact with the female lead, a comparatively glamorous, proactive, and eccentric woman. What's your favorite that has the opposite premise, where it's a consciously "ordinary" woman falling into the orbit of a more interesting man, while keeping the emphasis more on the "comedy" part of romantic comedy?

I guess Jellyfish Princess kinda counts, but I was rather meh about it for criminally under-using the secondary cast of weirdo girl housemates to the female lead

Skip and Loafer could also count (Mitsumi is a overachieving country bumpkin dork who falls for the outgoing, seemingly perfect pretty boy Shima), but I'd say it's evenly balanced in its comedy/romance/drama/slice-of-life elements.

Apothecary Diaries could also fit the bill, but again, not purely a comedy. (period drama + mystery thrown into the mix)

There is nothing about the male lead in Nozaki-kun that can be considered glamorous or proactive, but the female lead is definitely the straight man in most of the gags (except when she isn't, because surprise, she's a stupid weirdo too), and it's also much more focused on comedy (it's basically a gag manga with some continuity, like most 4komas).

e: actually thinking back on it I think One-Point Advice Yankee could be a perfect fit.

Hello again, everyone. This time I am looking for a one cour or shorter anime that has some sort of central mystery that is unraveled/deduced by the characters. Something like Everything Becomes F or Zaregoto: Kubikiri Cycle. It doesn't necessarily have to involve detectives or be a murder mystery, just something that involves theories/reasoning. A moody atmosphere is a plus.

Can someone recommend me an anime/manga that heavily subverts Japanese medieval fantasy tropes?

Dungeon Meshi. the main way in which it subverts the setting is that it is good, instead of bad,

So, this might be a long shot, but I found out these past couple of days that I love learning about food anime. Bartender, Dungeon Meshi, Campfire Cooking in Another World With My Absurd Skill, Ms. Koizumi Loves Ramen Noodles, Restaurant to Another World, and Isekai Izakaya Nobu. Yes, I’ve tried Food Wars too.

Is there anything else I can watch that has that whole “cozy” learning about food/drink feel?

I was also recommended Cinderella Chef but didn’t like it very much animated. Have yet to try it manga style.

Manga-only, but three more you could try are Restaurant of the Awkward People, Uramachi Sakaba and She Loves to Cook, and She Loves to Eat.

Also a bit of a long shot, but for a live action show you could check out "Midnight Diner: Tokyo Stories". Definitely hits that cozy vibe.
