It's been a while since i've seen it, but i remember thinking it was pretty cool but then it drags its feet for way too long

Torquemadras posted:Sure - gonna keep that in mind. That kind of attitude kept me from watching K-On and Madoka for the longest time, and oooooooh boy those were GREAT. I feel like I've been missing out on a whole lot of honestly great stuff by just suspecting shows of general creepiness, when the genuinely good stuff really isn't. Or maybe I'm a creep now too. I dunno, I've got an anime avatar. as the name implied, the first episode is actually the last episode, chornologically. Check out the second one as well, it's where the story actually starts. Also, i am sorry but you called Kouji generic and annoying and so i must destroy you

I was gifted World End Economica and I thought it was good so now I'm looking to explore more of the medium. I don't have any particular genre in mind, just want to try the "classics". Patter Song posted:Just wanted to thank this thread for pushing me to watch Gundam X. 4 eps in and I think it's quite good. It's not quite as...fast-paced as other Gundam series are, but that's fine. It's going to be as hard as Turn A was for remembering all the names, though. It's pretty obviously meant to be a what-if scenario of a worst-case One Year War scenario, so the shared terminology and designs are in service to that. All gundam keep the Suit/Armor distinction though.

Kokoro Wish posted:There's also the 2009 Mazinger Z, if you want a look into the reimagined origin of the genre. I am down with anything Go Nagai. Mazinger Z being the origin of the genre is a myth, the original mecha manga was actually Tetsujin 28-go, which preceded it by 16 years. It also had a very good reimagining by the same director as 2009 Mazinger Z in 2004.

AlternateNu posted:I need recommendations for anime that came out this year. I usually have at least two or three under my belt by now for the annual forum vote, but new job has made time for sifting through the typical heaps-o-crap difficult. I haven't even had a chance to watch Diamonds are Unbreakable, yet. :/ Concrete Revolutio. Technically it started last year but it finished this year. It's a story about alternate-universe 1960s-70s Japan, and nearly every character and event in the show refers back to either 1) Time-accurate pop culture or 2) actual historical events. Despite this the show is very thematically cohesive, as well as well animated. Furthermore, it also uses a non-chronological narrative in a really interesting and cool way. The nature of the show also means that you have a magical girl, giant robot and were-jaguar fighting together against knock-off Godzilla, which is rad as gently caress. Also if you're willing to open the manga Pandora's Box then the sky's the limit for shoujo/josei romances really since a lot will feature a female lead. He said romance/love triangle, so having a love triangle isn't necessary.

Bricklord posted:Ajin was pretty mint. Anything similar that I can burn through? Felt like it was really similar to Tokyo Ghoul, but more emphasis on realism in the scenario of a super-human, if that means anything in an anime. I haven't seen Ajin but Concrete Revolutio is about alternate universe 1960s-70s Japan where the big difference from our world is that superhumans exist.
