Some of these look cool, and I recognize Vinland Saga of course, it's pretty popular around here. I think I saw some ads for Witch Hat Atelier and said "hey, this artwork is pretty cute, well done". How are the rest of them?

Two seem to be about people who need sign language to get around -- is that reflected in a way it shows either of the authors are legit familiar with the experience?

Shangri-la Frontier is the greatest videogame manga ever written and Medalist is by far one of the best sports ones same for Witch Hat Atelier and fantasy.

Well, there's certainly a lot of variety there for sure. Even the wine one looks at least worth a try just for the concept alone. Not sure how they managed thirty volumes of it, though.

Thanks.

Haven't read it, but it look interesting. A Silent Voice is great, but INSANELY emotionally taxing and grueling to read. KyoAni did a movie, that also hits HARD.

Any manga humble bundle like that is generally worth the purchase, it's rare that they cram them full of outright garbage, it's usually a significant value in really good series, and often includes the entirety of them if they're completed series.

This one contains pretty much everything out for each of these with maybe one volume off. Kodansha seems to have a deal with Humble Bundle of some kind which is why all of these are from them, but yeah this one is CRAZY good.

Hunt11 posted:

As long as you are emotionally ready for it, I would heartly recommend A Silent Voice as well.

Oh I agree, but it's one that you really only read once and that's it because it just hits that hard.

Currently watching alongside Dungeon Meshi, hence why I'm feeling a bit overloaded by mana systems, fighter mage rogue cleric parties and general D&D-ness. I enjoy them for what they are but I'm looking for some alternatives to spice it up.

If the animes had been good I'd have rec'd Faraway Paladin and Helck. I still do rec the manga though.

Recommend me a reverse isekai. Doesn't have to be anime, manga and light novels are fine too.

For context about my bad taste - I genuinely enjoyed (most of) Sword Art Online.

Shangri-la Frontier. It's VRMMO like SAO except actually good.

Infinite Dendrogram isn't an amazing show, but it does a good job of holding to its VRMMO world's internal rules without breaking them arbitrarily for cheap drama and power creep. Even the villains are just other players bound to the rules, they're just high-end players, and it's a fun little show all round.

So I've heard. I have the manga on the side and have been meaning to dig into it same for the LN.

I've been enjoying a lot of the manga recommendations I got from this thread earlier for romance-y stuff that's actually got the romance happening more than just endless will-they won't-they and is somewhat low on fan service (though sexual themes and poo poo are a-ok for me - I'm just not super into, like, gratuitous panty shots outside of explicitly intimate scenes or actual erotica or pornography. If I'm seeing someone naked in this context I want it to have a narrative as well as titillating purpose). I think I also asked for adult protags in particular and for manga about relationships rather than just courtship, and I think I said it was cool whatever combo of people the main couple was. I got a buncha great recs for straight couples and a buncha great yuri recs, so this time I'm explicitly asking for recs for gay male romance or rom-com type manga that otherwise meets my criteria. Hit me with your faves.

I'm also thinking about posting some thoughts and reactions about the recommendations I got that I've read - do you think that makes more sense here or in the shoujo/josei/romance thread? I guess I will just post once I have enough time at the keyboard to get my thoughts together.

Probably here for visibility since the other thread is kind of a ghost town now. I'll post some recs after your post to avoid repeats(as well as digging up more stuff).

My Wife is a Man on the other hand is and its very cute. Same author as Drinking is for Married Couples which is another solid rec.

The Mikadono Sisters are Easy to Handle is also very good.

Lots of romantic comedies have the setup where the male lead is a comparatively subdued, passive, and practical man, who's brought by coincidence into contact with the female lead, a comparatively glamorous, proactive, and eccentric woman. What's your favorite that has the opposite premise, where it's a consciously "ordinary" woman falling into the orbit of a more interesting man, while keeping the emphasis more on the "comedy" part of romantic comedy?

It's just like, 10% of the manga's page count at best.

I remember reading years ago that there's, like, two different versions of Escaflowne, one more Shonen, and one more Shoujo. Is that correct, or did I hallucinate that diving too deep into Tvtropes or something?

If I recall, the movie was more...angsty/moody vs the anime. I think that's the one that's more shonen as well vs the anime proper.

Hello again, everyone. This time I am looking for a one cour or shorter anime that has some sort of central mystery that is unraveled/deduced by the characters. Something like Everything Becomes F or Zaregoto: Kubikiri Cycle. It doesn't necessarily have to involve detectives or be a murder mystery, just something that involves theories/reasoning. A moody atmosphere is a plus.

Dusk Maiden of Amnesia. Erased was good, but I think the manga worked better. Dusk Maiden is a bit similar in that regard so check out the manga as well.

My SO and I really enjoy comedy shows where the main character is some kind of terrible goblin who screams a lot and are often drawn as a chibi blob while they have their "clever" plans or reasoning backfire and they get exactly what they deserve while a straight man character or narrator heedlessly tells them that they are an idiot but things turn out alright and heartwarming in the end. Examples we have watched include Tearmoon Empire, The Great Jahy Will Not Be Defeated!, 'Tis Time for "Torture," Princess, Don't Toy With Me, Miss Nagatoro, and Squid Girl.

I'm sure there are a lot of shows where elements of the above are true, but the key part of those examples is that only the main character is particularly zany for all or most of the runtime, and they get a lot of internal monologue or at least talks out loud to themselves a lot, putting their dumbass thoughts on display for all to see.

edit: For instance we've watched and enjoyed Kaguya-sama: Love is War which has a bunch of elements of that but none of the main characters quite have that "terrible goblin" thing going on.

People already mentioned Uzaki-chan which features a literal goblin girl so I'll add in Chio's School Road, Asobi Asobase, Dropkick on my Devil, and Gabriel Dropout.

So, this might be a long shot, but I found out these past couple of days that I love learning about food anime. Bartender, Dungeon Meshi, Campfire Cooking in Another World With My Absurd Skill, Ms. Koizumi Loves Ramen Noodles, Restaurant to Another World, and Isekai Izakaya Nobu. Yes, I’ve tried Food Wars too.

Is there anything else I can watch that has that whole “cozy” learning about food/drink feel?

I was also recommended Cinderella Chef but didn’t like it very much animated. Have yet to try it manga style.

I second what Captain Invictus said about Kumika's Sense of Taste and will add Drinking is for Married Couples which is about a bartender house husband making cocktails for his wife, Shinmai Shinmai Futari Gohan which is about stepsisters bonding via cooking and food, Nomi Joshi which is about a group of women friends eating and drinking delicious food and booze, How to Grill our Love I think is getting anime soon and it's about a newlywed couple bonding via BBQ cooking and grilling, and Opening a Cafe in Another World seems promising on cursory overview. I feel like I'm missing another well known one that I can't recall if it was also HS based or house life based.

This reminded me that Taisho Otome Otogibanashi had a cooking spinoff as well as the main manga having a lot of cooking and food related stuff.
