Do they have pay streaming sites in Japan? Because I and most other people I know consume most of our anime through places like Netflix, Funimation, or Crunchyroll compared to DVDs. Maybe it's the same over there.

bandai channel, d-anime store, some individual per-channel ones, nico carries anime, and a bunch more that i dont know by name. nearly every anime is streamed but they don't do simulcasts, its usually a week after it airs or so. this is mostly useful for people who live outside the places where anime airs.

There's nothing to really say about Super. It's a pile of dogshit that's making GT look good.

They put Dragonball back on tv with a new series and aren't putting the effort into actually making it even slightly decent other than a few isolated moments of comedy with Vegeta. I imagine most viewers have just dropped the show by now, I know I certainly did when I saw the direction it was going.

in kanto region (tokyo + a bunch of other places) it was the 8th most watched anime last week (behind mainstays like sazae-san, shin-chan, conan, and one piece), and the second most dvr'd anime

How involved is Toriyama with writing Super anyway?

As far as I can tell Super has no series composition credit (head writer) so the main writer credit is his. This is in contrast to say DBZ which had Koyama credited for series comp (http://www.animenewsnetwork.com/encyclopedia/people.php?id=93).

Also I can't even think of a writer who actually works at Toei these days, nearly everyone who writes anime episodes is freelance and works at multiple studios at a time.

This guy wrote the script for Super 1, 5, 15-18 for example.

..amusingly enough, the son of DBZ's Koyama has written 3 episodes for Super (4, 10, 19).

what does toriyama have to do with any of this

He's the story writer for Super. Individual episodes are written by other people but he's doing the story outline or whatever.
