Even if there was a deeper meaning behind the word nakama, that meaning will never be retained in an English translation simply by virtue of nakama being a Japanese word. An average English speaker isn't even going to understand the superficial meaning of it, let alone any deeper meaning WHICH THERE IS NOT. Edit: It's really a case of nerds having to make every loving thing they like into a secret club where no newcomers are allowed. "Oh, you don't understand the deeper implications of the word nakama? Better study up.  "
