Alternate idea: replace the portraits with Stellaris races.

Wasn't there a game like that? It was an old DOS game like Shadow President. You played as the leader of a country following a revolution. You had to play both sides of the Cold War as well as maintain some level of internal unity. Most games ended in either your assassination or US invasion.

Probably means corruption, which was pretty unnecessary, as well as Sailors, which is just manpower for boats. States are fine though and get rid of an old, stupid exploit.

Focus trees are one of the more interesting parts of HoI4's design. If the game requires a country to be a specific ideology, maybe just don't give it focuses that affect that? Seems like throwing the baby out with the bathwater by making it generic.

The economic system of V2 is pretty opaque to begin with, but honestly I find it hard to lose money as long as you keep tariffs up. You'll probably make it back after Westernizing. Some of the techs help you get more out of taxation too.

China's off map, mostly, and basically just acts as an additional diplomatic window. It doesn't really affect performance and makes the eastern half of the map have more interesting things going on. Really the only downside is China's influence reaches too far west too often, but that's easily fixable.

Yea, this what I was hoping to happen when they started unveiling MoH. You could give different E Asian nations their own unique dynastic name if they take the mandate.

They should just bite the bullet and have all of Eurasia in there. They've already decided to go down the road of nonfeudal societies with CK2's DLC so might as well go all the way and do it right from the start. Designing a system to represent a centralized, bureaucratic empire like China could in turn make places like Byzantium and the Caliphates better represented as well.

Beyond that, the main thing I would want out of CK3 is a better sense of location. Your character only really travels "on map" while leading an army and everything else is really abstracted. It would be nice if your character had more of a physical presence, distance mattered more, etc. Kind of like how its done in Koei's ROT3K games.

Sliders and Agents are pretty game-y too. Besides provincial population, which never really worked right, I don't know how EU3 was more of a simulation.
