Why does everyone hate Meg so much? Even her parents treat her like dirt. And why is that funny? Sorry OP if I'm hijacking the thread.

tumor looking batty posted:That's true but what is the story behind it..? Well the other poster is right in a sense. But in another sense, cartoons are real! Here's how it works: 1. People (real people) sit at a drawing desk or a computer and create a series of images of the characters that are then put together in order to create the illusion of movement and action. 2. Other people (real people) talk into microphones (recording devices) to match the series of images. 3. A third group of people (*also* real people!) match up the images and the voice recordings so it appears that the sound that you hear on your television is coming out of the dog's mouth.

The whole family seems to treat her as a scapegoat (Sorry for using Wikipedia. It was the best source I could find to explain what a "scapegoat" is!) This is used repetitively. Some find this repetition humorous because it is patently ludicrous on its face. Here's another example of Family Guy using repetition to create a humorous situation: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Y9j3heYZAk8] Also, humor can be found in the fact that Meg is the victim of her family's cruelty for no apparent reason. This is considered "absurd" and some find humor in the absurd. Furthermore, upon closer examination Meg might well be the most normal, well-adjusted member of the Griffin clan. The fact that the other members of the family treat her so cruelly can be considered a form of irony, perhaps.
