New game and all but pubbies are also really bad about basic stuff like sticking together. Because of how the game is focused on melee i don't think people are even trying to wrap their head around the block and push mechanics.

Pushing could save your life in L4D but it's even doubly important here.

Marsh level in particular is just rage inducing with pubbies. It's big and open which means they can't even fight their urge to ignore the basic core gameplay component of sticking and moving with the loving team.

Bright wizard is great though they could have explained the venting mechanic better in the tooltips. It hurts you, and I don't see a situation where you would absolutely have to trade health for a chance at more big fireballs.

I've spent the most time playing bright wizard but waywatcher is probably my second favorite class followed by witch hunter. Only cute little banter I've noticed from bright wizard is some stuff with the Witch hunter. Something about being her jailer.

So is there a steam grp up already?

My one worry is the game won't ship with many levels and we won't see many as paid DLC either. Payday 2 maps are reasonably small, usually a bank or a building of some kind, L4D and Vermintide are long in comparison.

It's shipping with 13 levels. Throw difficulty options and loot on top I think we'll be fine until (hopefully?) DLC starts trickling in.

Anyways for those that missed the super secret unintentional closed beta, here is all the gameplay stuff I noticed

Characters start with an additional weapon.

Only three types of ores for the forge, instead of four.

Normal difficulty gives a health potion everyone at the start.

Ranged is weaker; it might have just been a raising of clanrat HP, but a rat taking two fireballs/shots instead of one is pretty noticeable. Headshots are still lethal.

Bright mage can shoot more stuff off before overheating.

Gutter runners got a new model and overall felt less bullshit. They're not as quick on their vanishing act and didn't seem able to chain pounces as well.

Rat ogre spawns appeared in new places. Got one at the barracks, and one at the bar. Never two in one map, though.

Stormvermin patrols move faster, almost player speed.

Crescendo after blowing the horn is more constant: more like a constant steam than waves.

Stormvermin guard the anchors to the screaming bell now, and a full patrol sits around idle in front of the tower entrance. Makes the map feel very combat heavy.

Special spawns seem a little looser as well. Got two loving rattling gunners, side by side, after blowing up the gate, which may have been scripted it was so cruel. It was at least cool seeing them gib a swarm of skavenslaves that ran out of it. I got to watch it from the ground. Jerks.

(I hope they don't erase my stuff again since I picked up a green shield that had +2 stamina on it which was really nice to have and I wanna keep it.)

Will agree with a lot of this. The change to the horn assault definitely hurt. All the times I've done that withstand onslaught in previous beta without any problems but this one piled the bodies on for sure.

Will say idk about weaker range though, My BW still felt like I was kill mostly trash mobs with one fireball. Didn't feel weaker but I definitely felt like overheat threshold was much higher.

That said the bit I played of waywatcher my charged bow shots did feel weaker. One ratling gunner in particular felt like he was taking twice as many charged bows to the head than before.

Only encountered one rat ogre and he spawned in that little nook on magnus tower as you cross the rooftops, right before you're inside again. He spawned in the inside as you would drop down. Scary loving sight truss.

Anyone got a cliffs notes on how this is different from L4D / what to do / where to go for someone who's just playing the beta for the first time

I'd like to spend a minimum of time getting yelled at (or at least getting yelled at where I deserve it)

Always stick with your group. If you're familiar with L4D you should already know this but given how this more of a melee centered game, it's a can be a lot more difficult to regroup/get saved if you separate.

Block! Even blocking the rat ogre's swing! Pushing is super effective as well but know that it draws aggro. Unless you're playing a board and sword char (Dwarf or sgt) try to save it for when you need some breathing room only.

Aim for head especially on specials

If you play bright wizard you can cool down your overcharge by hitting the reload key but you will take damage.

Depending on what FoV you set your game to, the range of your melee swings might be a little longer than you think

Dodge! spacebar + direction

Bright wizards are pretty fun. As far as I can tell, you build up charge with each spell, and vent it with R. The small area in the middle of the meter is "free" charge; once you hit the notches on the overcharge, you take damage while venting. If you max out your charge, it vents automatically and you take lots of damage.

It's a fun game of trying to cause as much damage while minimizing the hurt to yourself / team. No idea if you can friendly fire with fireballs, I just do it anyways.

IIRC, some goon said the higher or highest difficulty has friendly fire

Yeah Magnus Tower is a cake walk for every grp I've been in (pubs included) compared to Supply & Demand.

Not too surprised though because it's massive and sorta open. Something similar was happening on that forest map from the last beta. Ppl just seem to have a hard time not wandering off and sticking together on those bigger arenas.

Side Note: Did hard for the first time tonight and it's mostly fine save a ratogre fight with pubbies that felt like it took ten minutes.

Packmasters are pretty easy to hear as their skulls or whatever make a distinct jingle (jangle) when they're running.

They're a bit harder to notice though since compared to the other tells it's a lot more subtle. Couple that with how they tend to come during hordes means they're easily the most deadly special at the moment when you play on higher difficulties.

Best way to deal if they catch someone mid massive horde is...just let him lynch your buddy. If the 3 of you can survive then cool but trying to force your way through the tide is just gonna put your team in a worst position.

All of a sudden though I'm flying down into the lower levels and am instantly destroyed. Any drat idea what could have happened?

Later on we get to the horn and hide under it because gently caress effort at this point, and during this time we take out 3 globadiers, 2 stormvermin, 2 gunners, and a gutter runner. The path below opens up and after chucking an incendiary grenade to clear way out we turn the corner around the horn and are greeted by a full unit of stormvermin and two gunners. A few of us manage to get down, but I get trapped between the above at my face and the swarm behind me. I did not know the shield was that beefy against bullets! I manage to kill the gunner that spawned at my back with a shotgun blast, but the rats (the normal behind me, and the full stormvermin squad with gunner in front of me still) were just too much.

I'd like to see other enemy types as mini-events. So, like, randomly off to the side maybe you'll see a vampire with some zombies (or a necromancer, or whatever) fighting some skaven. You can ignore them, or beat their rear end for some loot. Or maybe some maps have a greenskin raiding party that shows up and attacks you/the skaven. Or maybe there are some Chaos cultists in the sewers one time. Either way there are a lot of ways they can throw in some new enemies without making a totally new game. But yeah, I'd love to see it expanded to have different enemy types with different behaviours.

They could do it classic Killing Floor style where during holidays and steam sales you have some changes. Halloween? Special map with vampires and special loot. Christmas? New map and orcs etc.

My only source of suspicion is that it's on Normal and they're all half life or less when I joined mid-match.

Next think I know, they're all corpses in a corner at what I assume is the end of the level while I attempt to block/poke 2-3 Stormvermin and a rat swarm to death to reach their (eventually) respawning bodies. Beat the first group, moved to their bodies, got surrounded and failed :(

I've kinda encountered similar groups today too. Pros when it comes to specials but let some horde scragglers flank them, or say 2 stormvermin show up and it's a wipe. I've had more resets today on normal magus tower than anything I've done on hard so far.
