Got any deathsticks?
The 08th MS team adaptation was also a nightmare Shiro had. In the worst episode of the series (the last episode never happened so it therefore cannot be the worst)

Gundam has more often than not been really dispassionate in its depiction of mass slaughter. It's a franchise where a tragedy is incurred by a five foot long shell casing braining a lday fleeing a combat zine.

Would it break forum rules (re: :filez:) if I ask where to find translations of certain Gundam mangas and/or light novels? Also is there a more suitable thread to ask in?

Most of unicorn is quite good but some episodes just drag out forever and the last episode is such a wet fart. It peaks at episode 4.

F91 is good for like, a few animated sequences and mecha design, and the concept but not the execution of the 'bug' drones, cuz like, that's a super interesting idea about automated military tech, but so loving stupid on screen.

Gundam F91 and Crossbones seem to have a thing where people like to talk about them as The Cool Thing People Don't Know About, but when they're actually read or watched, they don't even come close to living up to the hype.

F91 isn't great but I like it well enough. The afterimage poo poo is cool, Cecily is cool, and Seabook is cool because he has one of the goofiest Tomino names.

It also has the weird mystery about whether Iron Mask killed Cecily's father or not, and that's kind of neat.

Man, I don't know.I just finished playing SRWX and when he's alongside people like Marvel Frozen, Knuckle Bee, Shott Weapon and Barn Burnings, Seabook seems positively normal.

I mean think about it this way. Why would there be a book in the sea? Books don't swim in the sea, they don't know how to do that. They're books. At least with a weapon you can shoot something, when you burn something they're uh burning, and Marvel and Frozen are at least now owned by the same parent company.

In other words, you can totally burn a barn but you can't sea a book

Yeah, there’s a laundry list of things I do actually like from F91:

-The vanguard grunt mech designs
-The opening scene battle from the civilians perspective is such a great contrast to modern superhero movie poo poo
-Mask dude
-Mask dude’s ridiculous dialogue
-Mask dude’s absurd flower mech

I just don’t think it comes together well as a cohesive whole. I do wish I could get a decent kit of the Vanguard grunt mech and the endboss mech.

I can understand that, it kinda irked me too at first because everybody looks like they're 10 years old. I won't say it's the best and most well written Gundam story ever but if you can get into Hasegawas style it's a fun ride and it's also fairly concise at only 6 volumes.

The same guy also wrote his own comical take on the Johnny Ridden story which I rather enjoyed.

The Rafflesia may have a ridiculous lineart design, but it’s weirdly terrifying in motion. It’s a genuinely inspired villain machine.

I'm probably guilty of overhyping Crossbone. All that it actually promises is pirate Gundams, and it at least delivers on that. As for the actual story, it's weird how Zeon gets more sympathy/apologia as time goes on, but Jupiter is never not straight up an evil empire ruled by a mad tyrant. Thinking about it, the charm of the story is that the whole thing is a little off-kilter, much like the art.

I stopped partway through episode 5 for bed, so I haven’t seen that yet. I will say my high point was probably the big fight on Earth where every ancient mobile suit comes out of the woodwork to gently caress poo poo up.

The only bits of F91 that have actually stuck with me are that one civilian getting wiped out by a shell casing the size of a wheely bin and when it suddenly has Star Wars music.

I liked Unicorn a lot despite it being kind of hosed up. Even if episode 7 is a little batshit, 4 is so good that it makes up for it. It puts a nice cap on the early-UC arc, and the Sinanju is good as hell, but it goes completely off the loving rails showing how powerful Newtypes are. Probably wouldn't make a lot of sense as a show if you haven't seen at least a few of the older UC Gundams, but if you have I liked all the little references to them.

F91 owns because the total time between the movie starting and the first dead child is like, four minutes. And the suit designs are mostly extremely good. The plot doesn't always flow right, like on a couple of occasions I lost track of which colony the action was happening on because of how abrupt the cuts are, but it mostly works, and it was neat to have a UC show that didn't boil down to there just being another Zeon remnant that needed thrashing to prevent a colony drop.

EDIT: How long after they come out do the Origin movies show up on Hulu? I watched the first 5 on there, but I haven't seen any announcements from them about if/when 6 might show up, which I think drops in Japanese theaters next week? Nevermind, apparently it shows up there the same day, May 5th.
