Yeah the coup stuff and hyper nationalist stuff is like that because its a take on the coup and hyper nationalism of the 1930s, so to strip the nationalistic part out would be to miss the point. Its saying something about nationalism, its not just being nationalistic for the sake of it.

So there was a post forever ago in this thread or the one before it that said one translation of "Kira Yamato" is "Sparkle Japanman."

Aren't there other translations for those two words, though? I was just reminded of this while listening to Death Note music. I'm pretty sure Light wasn't named Kira for Sparkle but for Killer. But killer definitely wouldn't suit SEED/Destiny Kira at all.

It was probably a joke.

In terms of production it makes sense I guess; far more of them were made, but it always kinda bugged me that in the far off UC continuations like Greco and Turn A there's a lot of OYW machines standin around or getting dug up, and not so much UC late era machines. But I guess a few hundred / thousand years, whats a couple of decade difference?

I'm guessing it was a thematic choice rather than a purely canonical one. I'd even be willing to bet it's a meta commentary on how many gundam shows are literally a bunch of kids in crazy prototype death machines.

I recall everybody making a huge fuss about teenagers being aboard the white base and how young amuro was, and now I guess there are official...child soldier brigades. before this, I don't think the federation was ever portrayed as anywhere near that desperate. even if it's just thematic/meta it has the side-effect of making the federation look like even DUMBER idiots

This seems to be late in the war, so I'm not surprised to see kids. Half the human race has died after all, gotta conscript next years class. It's the same problem you see in WWII, which TB is cribbing from liberally. The production is finally up but experienced pilots are lacking from attrition. Zeon is putting maimed soldiers back to work and the feds are dropping kids into the grinder.

It lasts about a quarter of an episode so at least they don;t have to worry about that part

EW has cool designs and animation and is stupid as poo poo. As a wing fan before it was released over here i coveted it, but the actual product is not super fulfilling.

If you do watch i recommend the ova version, the movie version has some very repetitive music cues and the insert songs are basically just poo poo out at where the episode splits would be anyway.
