A decision like that about the fate of your entire nation state seems like is should require a super-majority either way. A super-majority to join the EU in the first place, and a super-majority to leave.

And isn't this whim-of-the-uneducated-mob the entire reason we use representational democracy anyway? Because at any given time 51% of the people could be loving stupid about a particular issue? Why wasn't this decided in parliament?

HFCS is real sugar (mixed with a bit of water, but whatever, Dr Pepper has water in it anyway). If you want to split hairs, what y'all are talking about is the difference between HFCS (a mixture of glucose and fructose, two types of monosaccharides (one-ring-of-atoms sugars), generally derived from corn) and sucrose (a disaccharide (two-rings-of-atoms sugar) made of glucose and fructose stuck together, which is generally produced via sugar cane or sugar beets). Like I mentioned earlier, they're chemically identical by the time they get into your bloodstream, since the sucrose will have been split into its fructose and glucose parts.)
