Had a friend in school whose parents were so retarded they sent him to school with a lunch consisting of a sandwich made of peanut butter, egg, a sponge, and some dice. He took some poo poo for it, but didn't go all fetal over it. Grew up pretty normal, made peace with his parents and even ended up in the olympics.

Very recently Wil Wheaton had a blog post go viral about this very thing. Huffington asked him if they could reprint an article he wrote. He asked how much do they pay contributors, and they hemmed and hawwed, explaining they don't, but it's great widespread exposure for his work! He said no. The blog post talks about how the claim of "exposure" is a dirty business attempt and how no matter what you create, you should never let yourself be ripped off like that. In his case, he figured even at industry minimums per word he should be offered $260, which isn't much for a guy like him, but it's still more than zero.

HuffPo not exactly making a lot of allies lately.

Edit - I suppose it's a 2 for 1. The people about 4-5 rows back that are a bit higher? Those are the actual front row seats at Citi Field. But the Mets installed two sections of 20 or so seats for the World Series - for VIP types. Your seats that cost you multiple thousands of dollars are now not actually in the front row. Still a pretty good view to break your heart though.

There we go!

If anyone wants any more, the Packers have a crazy knack for losing on final plays.

Their current coach has been with them for 10 seasons. They've made the playoffs 8 times in those years, winning the super bowl once. Of the 7 games where they've lost and been eliminated - 5 of them have happened on the final play of the game. Five times in the last 10 seasons, they've been gut punched on the last play. In the 50 years since the super bowl has existed, no other coach has had it happen more than twice.

Side note as a Packer fan - meh on the coin flip. The Cardinals won the flipless flip. Don't really care about the re-flip. Rodgers says he would have changed his call, but whatever. It was all so unprecedented that it's hard to get too pissed. You want to win? Don't allow scrambling QBs to hit wide open receivers for 75 yard plays.

Those numbers are a little deceptive because of how NFL overtime works. Three of those losses have been in overtime, which after a certain point is sudden death so of course its going to end on the final play.
Yeah - it's more a part of overtime to be sure. Still a bit of an odd stat, and really annoying to lose in OT that many times.

I shouldn't have looked this up.

For what it's worth to non baseball fans - 46 is beyond ancient in baseball years. Only 6 pitchers have played at age 47 or older in 140 or so years of major league baseball.

The current oldest player in baseball is a full four years younger than Nolan Ryan was when this happened.

Edit cause I like baseball derails in the schadenfreude thread:

The current oldest player is pitcher Bartolo Colon. He's fat ugly and awesome. And since he's in the NL, he also gets to bat. poo poo like this happens now and then.
