The soundtrack is in loose .ogg files in the game folder, worth the 18 bucks by itself IMO.

For loving serious. I've been playing for about an hour now and I've been looking to get into fights because I just love blowing poo poo up to whisky-soaked country butt-metal.

One thing I don't like is that every ship but me can move on the y-axis, and that makes me feel like a big dummy that doesn't know how to fly up in space :saddowns:

Edit: Oh wait that's just the fighters, nvm

I switched out flak cannons for pulse cannons, and fighters just pop like zits around me while I focus on the larger ships for broadside activity.

I'm still early game though, haven't even left the cradle star system. Getting into fights is such a gamble, I have a hard time being sure when I start a battle who's going to wind up getting to bite the curb. I did learn that, without argument, a mission marked 'Hard' is well outside of my current loadout capability.

What are the best noncombat options for racking up money? I'd think that running traderoutes for a bit (like every other game this one's related to) would be how to do it, but with how systems are procedurally generated, there's probably no concept of 'universally good traderoutes'. The in-game economy information doesn't seem to be all that hot either, past looking at the news to see what is reported to be selling high / low at where.

God no. These guys are perpetually awful.

Does anyone else get weird periods where no music plays?

There might be moments when none's meant to. I'd be alright if most music would restrict itself to dogfights, just so I don't get tired of the music sooner. Good thing however that this game - at least on PC - lets you specify a custom music directory for when that day comes.

That's it. I am adding AC4's sea shanties to the playlist. Have to find the files though.

Is there any reason why I *shouldn't* join the merchant guild if I've got the money for it?

Got an Icoris from an Outsiders outpost. Stats-wise it is a completely beefed up version of the Hammerhead, and I have loving loved it from the start. You get two more turrets, better speed, hull and maneuverability, and comparitively speaking it's not that expensive.

If I could only find some of those sexy lasers people have been talking about... I've salvaged a few parts from the field, but they've all been junk to sell. Real good turn-over at market at least.

I took a mission that I thought would be pretty easy, find and deliver 9 robots. Well, I've only found 2 in the system. Is there a easy way to find where I can get more or do I just have to keep visiting stations and seeing what they stock?

The latter is the quickest way of dealing with it. After you visit a station, you can just find out if a certain commodity is 'in stock' just on mouseover in the system map from then onward.

I'm at 9 hours into the game and haven't left the first system yet. I keep meaning to finish the story missions, but then hey there's a distress signal and a war and a market glut and some pirates and...

Yup! I'm pretty sure I'll be able to get out of the system this weekend though. And then I'll be in the next system, and it'll be Jane Says all over again.

Also, references to The Room at this point are pretty thoroughly played out... but I still laugh every time a distressed captain yells it out moments before my last broadside volley destroys them.

I think the whole point of that escort mission was to warn you off any other escort mission. Because they suck.

My big warn-off was showing up at an objective, and seeing my escort detonate three seconds after exiting warp.

I at least got a few gold nuggets off one of the three capital ships that were there.

No, but broadsides do (or turrets, if you find that too awkward). I usually just ignore mines unless there's no other threats around. They don't do much but slow you down a bit and a mediocre amount of damage (to shields), unless your shields are down or something.

Yes, but remember it's a deflector augment. Didn't pulse your deflectors when those torpedoes hit? No benefit.

But on the other hand if you save your deflectors for when missiles are about to hit, it just might be the thing for you.

It may not be MarioKart, but hitting the brake for sharper turns works as intuitively as expected.

I hope they add more keymap options in later on. I'd like to hit good ol' 'J' to bring up the mission log, and 'I' for the cargo hold, for example.

Save up for the Sturvile (sold by the Mercenary guild for... 700kish?). Which is basically a Super Tannhousen (And I loved my Tannhousen).

Still 6 broadsides, 5 Turrets, and it's turn speed is super fast. Though I can barely tell it's top speed is faster with all the disable missiles and being pulled automatically out of warp going on :downs:

I went from the starter Hammerhead to an Icarus, which for all intents was an upgrade in all categories, and have loved the poo poo out of it from the start. I saw the stats for the Sturville, and have been drooling for it since.

Finally made it to the viridian laser club. Got one off a special cargo crate in the middle of nowhere, another off a bounty hunt on a capital ship for those talking honey badger guys. Sad thing is, they're just mk2, and I'm cracking into affording mk4 equipment. They still outshined the hell out of the mk3 pulse turrets they replaced.

I'm guessing it'll take a small miracle to find better versions of viridian turrets.

make Militia bribe attempts certain to succeed

Oh, totally keep it up. Right now, I think Fallout, JC3, and dlc's in a few other popular games have pulled some folks away (like me). I'll definitely get back to this though.
