Something of slight interest regarding that:

MSW seemed to go off on a tangent by putting a lot of faith in something McCaig was just spitballing for JJ and company to give them ideas, but what they do propose would be interesting. Kylo sees a Force Ghost of Vader, while Luke possibly sees a Force ghost of Anakin. Would be an interesting contrast, to possibly have Christensen interacting with Luke, but have a Jones voiced Vader speaking to Kylo Ren. You could either play that up as a real dual-nature thing Anakin is going through, or just have the Vader side be some fake Snoke thing.

With Finn "breaking" his programming in 7, I wonder if we'll get a situation where he bros out with Poe for all of episode 8 but then gets captured by Phasma at the end. He's then given "re-education" and is made loyal to the Order again which sets up Rey trying to save him going into 9. If you really want to play up the angst, he could kill off another of the returning/new main leads. That particular plot line has been done before in other movies and shows (Hunger Games? Battlestar Galactica?), which might be a strike against it though.

This, yeah this was my take away as the in-universe reasoning for why the map worked/didn't work. There are hyperspace routes which means you can't go from A to B directly, sometimes you have to go from A to K, then to B. And here, the big map R2 provided gave the K they needed to get to Luke's B.

That's part of it. I think if there was nothing there she wouldn't have been like 'Hey use it!'. The other part is that the way the scene where he sees the Starkiller shot streaking across the sky is composed it came off to me as if the screaming was otherworldly and not people in the area screaming. In general it felt a lot like how Obi-wan described the destruction of Alderaan.

That was my read as well. If he does end up being Force sensitive, there are hints which are dropped in this movie. If he's not Force sensitive, there are other reasonable explanations for those things.

i.e.:

The village slaughter in the opening traumatizes him because he's actually feeling in through the Force and it breaks the conditioning VS it's a hosed up indiscriminate slaughter which just happens to break him out of his conditioning.

He hears the screams of those about to die on the Republic worlds VS He hears the screams of those on Takodana who see the Starkiller beam firing through the sky.

"Super-power" wise, the only real Force ability which would be apparent would be the persuasion she did. And even then it took multiple attempts, and only came after she herself was exposed to mind-manipulation. Otherwise most people might not even think it was a thing unless it was explained to them as something they really could do.

The Cameo posted:

Given that Laura Dern is apparently involved in the Poe/Leia story quite deeply and there is no mention of a character like her at all in that, I'm gonna venture to say that 90% of that is bullshit with some broad strokes that are spot-on like Luke talking with the ghosts of Obi-Wan and Yoda and Maz being somewhere in the picture, probably in something like a vision quest for Rey.

As it is apparently Dern is a lower commander in the Resistance who inserts herself as leader when Leia is put into a coma by a First Order ambush, much to Poe's chagrin. Poe rebels against her command and eventually takes over the Resistance himself after Dern's character makes a bunch of decisions that suggest she might be a FO mole operating within the Republic's chain of command. Presumably Leia wakes up before the end of the picture and resumes her leadership - or maybe she lets Poe retain his position as a "passing the torch" thing, since this movie's probably going to be stacked high with that sentiment after TFA, initially designed to be a torch-passing movie, turned into "hey guys, it's HAN SOLO~!" instead when JJ and Kasdan took over the script from Arndt. Who knows.

Also apparently at some point Luke looks for someone in an alien casino. Which also isn't mentioned anywhere in that synopsis. He also lives in a hut that looks like a honeycomb. There are pictures of this honeycomb hut and I swear to God it looks like something out of Willow.

Yeah, if you're going to take the time to write up a fake story outline, at least incorporate the existing spoilers leaked by reliable sites.

In regards to the honeycomb hut, I'm not sure what you're referring to. There have been several pictures of the reproduced Skellig Michael stone huts, which look just like the huts we saw in TFA already... Did you seen an incomplete one which didn't have all the rock in place maybe? Or are you talking about the shape? Because I guess you could call that a honeycomb, I mean it's like a bell, yurt or igloo shape.

Not sure if that means he'll be the real Ben or a vision or what. The fake-Ben could be possible, if the old (force?) tree we've seen leads to a Dagobah cave-like sequence.

There was also a recent rumor before Driver arrived about Ben being present on Ahch-To talking to Rey. Luke gets angered by the direction of the conversation and blows up one of the huts. Unclear again if this scene is real or a fantasy sequence.

They were for VIII. From what I recall, there was also some additional filming that went on a last summer which was rumored to also bulk up Leia's screen time. This coming after Rian put together a rough cut of the film.

I'm not sure whether Leia was supposed to originally live or die, but if she was to have lived, I could see her possibly "recovering" enough to become semi-active again so she can lead everyone to keep in line with how the story was possibly supposed to go, but we would get new lines from doctors telling her she should rest and that she's hurting her body. Then once she sees Luke is back, she gives her Obi-Wan "My part is done" look and they have her pass on and leave the rest to him.

The fact they were already setting her up to be gravely injured, which is sad in hindsight, seems to give them options on how to handle it.

ILM started doing some interviews about their work on Tarkin, and one of things they pointed out was that the lightning used for A New Hope and the lighting used for Rogue One are totally different, which posed some challenges in getting him to come out looking right. They could match it up fine within a scene if they used A New Hope lighting, but then that conflicted with the rest of the movie and he stood out even more when taken as a whole.

Interview with the editors about what was changed:

https://uk.movies.yahoo.com/rogue-ones-editors-reveal-scenes-added-in-the-star-wars-standalone-reshoots-exclusive-110124381.html

They cover everything except the third act pretty much, though they do vaguely talk about it being re-worked.

Originally the movie went from Young Jyn, to her being brought in before Mon Mothma. In the "reshoots" they added new bridge material with Cassian meeting the informant and Jyn being rescued. They also added scenes of Bodhi being led to Saw to better establish him.

They mentioned during pre-production they spliced together different movies to get a feel of what they were going for and the timing, one of the things they mentioned was them using the base door closing in Wargames for the tape vault door being locked in Rogue One to get the timing right, so it sounds like some form of that was in their originally.

Lucasfilm and the braintrust will be meeting in about a week to discuss what to do about Carrie Fisher's passing. Sources tell the Hollywood Reporter that Leia had an important part going into IX:

http://www.hollywoodreporter.com/heat-vision/carrie-fisher-episode-viii-how-star-wars-will-handle-leias-future-960849

If her reunion with Luke is in VIII, I'm guessing they may change the movie to have her succumb to the injuries she sustained from being blown out into space. If she doesn't meet with Luke in this movie, I guess they could reshoot and piece something together to make it work. I could feasibly see something like a conversation with Poe about the future will now happen with Luke swapped in instead.

There's also the recasting path, or recast and Tarkinstein Fisher ontop of the performance ala Rogue One. I don't think either are best for the character or franchise though.
