If you hated the remote like I did: https://www.amazon.com/Sideclick-Universal-Attachment-Streaming-Players/dp/B01N3PL81R This poo poo changed the game in my house. We used to have to have multiple remotes for various things, now we only need one. I got it a year ago or so, still works without changing battery-- not a single complaint. It also gives the remote a little bit more heft so you don't feel like you're slinging around a baseball card. But most importantly, it attaches to a single side which means when you pick up the ATV remote you never have to flip it around because you picked it up upside down which was ANNOYING.

I did too but I could never get mine to power the TV on, tried fiddling with the auto-wake, etc. And then changing the input on the TV was even more of a nightmare, once I got a PS4, etc. Volume, etc., works just fine on the ATV but power/input no.

I want to watch movies and view pictures and gifs I have on a hard drive. The HDD is connected to my PC by USB. What is the best way to watch your own movies AND see pictures on an AppleTV nowadays? I currently have my PC sharing the HDD over my network via SMB which is accessed via Infuse on my devices-- didn't need Pro. It works but it's pretty jank and you can't see pictures. I was thinking it would be a good idea to shove all my poo poo into a cloud storage option somehow, but since some of the things on there are homemade porn I'd be violating various TOS rules, even if they go unenforced.

You know, the command that lets you go forward or back by 10 seconds in a video. I'm confused why would you want to have the sideclick perform an action that the ATV remote that it's attached to is able to do? I think it's just supposed to let you get rid of your TV's remote.

The app on ATV isn't noticeably different. There is a 1-3ms difference in response time (SteamLink better), and it seems to not attempt to re-render on the Big Picture Mode as much.

I set bandwidth to automatic and its between 40 mb/s and 50 mb/s with less than 30 ms of latency total. I tried some resident evil, hitman and hollow knight and it was excellent. Is that why it was so much smoother? I was able to play Overwatch on my ATV today and I had no problems. I set it to "balanced" but couldn't notice a difference in input latency vs "beautiful" to be quite honest.

YouTube doesn’t work with homepods and follows a different UI such that you don’t have the option to switch audio devices. The great list of apps I have that doesn’t work with homepods are: YouTube Even twitch works. Even Channels works. Google sucks.

I want a YouTube (or Twitch) PiP really bad but they’ll probably never come because YouTube is the only app on my ATV that doesn’t give a poo poo about normal tvOS standards and does their own, lovely thing. Honestly just a better/more robust implementation of Airplay for Homepods would make me very happy. It’s dumb that each app wants to have their own stupid loving interface for playing videos, so some of them have you swipe down to select an audio output and others have no option to do so at all. Google has the worst loving apps on AppleTV, followed by Amazon.

It’s probably still Comcast’s fault. Generally if the error is sequestered to only one app, it’s because they hosed something up on their end. Does anyone have a workaround for why AppleTV is insisting I download and use Peacock to watch The Office, even when I bought the entire show on iTunes? That sucks. I think the entire class of wireless earbuds are hosed up; my parents bought me Bose QC Earbuds for my birthday and they broke within 30 minutes. I got a pair of Sony things and they broke within a few days. Then I figured (hoped) Apple would have the best QA so I bought AirPods and so far my theory has been correct. I recently watched a movie while my wife slept in the next room and the spatial audio on my AirPods was like living in the future, and I don’t think other wireless earbuds can do that? I really wish these things were like $60. Ugh. I’m always afraid I’ll lose them or something will gently caress up and then poof, bye bye $200.
