I have a few friends on Facebook pretty much circle-jerking off to how absolutely amazing Putin is. These are friends who live in Canada and the USA. It's kind of weird to see. They usually post some comment from Obama about compassion or some such bullshit and then one from Putin saying something like if Muslims came to his country they wouldn't be allowed to practice religion or how the proper response to terrorism is to level a country, and my friends would ask why their president can't be more like Putin. It's kind of bizaare to see people idol-worshipping Putin outside of Russia.

Sadly my roommate has bought into every single conspiracy theory lately (and for some reason MRA poo poo too). Spends most of his days in his bedroom watching stuff on YouTube. He gets very passionate about it too when discussing it (well more like shouting about it louder and louder because you don't know the truth, man). He is smart enough not to post it on Facebook though. At least he hasn't bought into the whole "false flags to get the government to take away our guns" thing. I think that is generally an American way of thinking.

I have a friend who lives in Australia but he lived in the states for a few years before that. Somewhere along there he met a guy and added that guy to his friends list. Years later my friend posts an article about Trump and that guy he met started ranting off about how Obama is very similar to Hitler and the worst thing to happen to America since forever. Anyway, here is snippets from said rant. Bonus points for the guns mention.    There is quite a lot more I could post from him but it is rather tiresome reading through all the ranting. If you post facts disproving a theory you will be told that those "facts" were created by those in the conspiracy to try put doubt about the truth, man. You would think this kind of BS would be kept to the distance that is the internet but my roommate started sprouting how blacks are more violent then whites, women commit nearly 50% of all domestic violence (and they are also weaker then men so they have to be deceiving by having a kid and refusing to let a man see his kid because she is vindictive bitch), feminism has never done anything good for a man and leads to censorship (going directly into why he can't say blacks are more violent then whites in public even though it is [proven fact because he will be labelled a racist), men are being put down by the world, Jews run all the world banks (he told me that this is okay though because it's just the way things are). Yep, my roommate pretty much went into a whole long youtube comment in real life rant the other day. But that is okay, because he has read articles and watched youtube videos so everything he said is backed up by facts, like how blacks commit the most violent crime but you can't say that because of the PC police, and PC is destroying the world. He also wants to read 1984 really badly now, which is kind of amusing.

I view most articles by sites like Mary Sue and Slate and such as just a new form of trolling. They are just lovely pop culture thought pieces without much behind them, designed to either get people who already agree with the content to share it on social media saying "see, I told you gay pansexual genderqueer pandas are misrepresented in media therefore I'm better than you" and to get people who already think that PC is killing the world to say "see, I told you these idiots want to make gay pandas take the place of my pop culture icon". Either way, the site gets its clicks.

I remember a friend posted a picture of Trudeau meeting the Queen and someone commentated on how Trudeau looked weak and pathetic in the picture while shaking the Queen's hand. The thing is if you are going to look at picture of someone you hate, everything they do in the picture will seem like something that makes the person pathetic. It's the same everything a conservative criticises Obama for bowing too low to the Japanese prime minister or some such poo poo.

Just read any comments section on any news article and try make sense of the mental gymnastics people do on them. The funny thing is that people who leave comments are so eager to express their opinion that they will leave such comments on sites/articles that don't even relate to their opinion.

Saw this poo poo on the Daily Show where they showed clips of Fox News attacking the president for crying when talking about dead kids. It is remarkable how out of the way people would go to make compassion look bad. You would think that their would be some introspection, like you don't have to like the president but at least acknowledge that when he is talking about dead children and crying that isn't a bad thing.

When it comes to cultural appropriation I wonder if the people writing the articles understand history. Basically everything ever done in history has been a form of cultural appropriation and not just buy conquer but by things like trade and alliances. If you look at things like food and places around the Mediterranean you will notice a lot of overlap food wise even though the cultures are different. And you what. That's great. Also being of one ethnicity and enjoying things of another is not a bad thing. It's a pretty good thing. It shows an understanding of things different from your own culture. Anything otherwise is pretty much segregation of cultures. We know how good that is.
