Most of the people in my Facebook list are posting Merry Christmas stuff, Bible verses if they're Christian, what's on TV, nice stuff like that. One guy has posted a really long rant about the Bible and how Christmas is fake and everyone who celebrates it either relgiously or seculary is a big dumb idiot. His reasoning seems to be based on the story of Noah and a misunderstanding of the symbolism in Relevation (he seems to think that the bit about Jesus as a lamb sacrificed for sin means that God is actually a goat? No idea how he got to that). That's all this guy seems to post is atheist stuff - because taking a day off to be nice and respectful and pleasant is too much apparently. Not to mention it's always the Bible he keeps misunderstanding and mocking, but whenever there's a islamic terrorist attack, he's quick to post how great muslims are and how no-one should ever question them ever. I'm tempted to post "that's nice, now do the koran" whenever he posts another long the Bible r/atheism copy/paste job. On the plus side, seeing everyone happy and enjoying the holiday is a really feeling.

This guy is unusual - he posts a lot of "edgy atheist" stuff, denies stuff like the fact that not all Christians are young earth creationists, that Christians have been motivated to make valuable advances in science, the arts and other discplines because of their faith, mocks summarised versions of Bible stories without actually knowing the text, your basic r/atheism stuff, but then he's always defending muslims and the koran? Also on my friends list, I have a muslim guy who thinks that islamic terrorism and ISIS is all made up by the media to discredit muslims (he seems to think that IS either isn't real, or is a peaceful country and the media makes up all the crimes against humanity) - he also posts crisis actor memes and thinks that Tila Tequila is being targeted by the illuminati for exposing the truth about the New World Order. (This is an actual conspiracy theory - a few years ago, Tequlia had an OD and suffered brain damage, and now writes word salad online. It's pretty sad, but there are people who think she's speaking the truth, because I guess the illuminati lets reality TV stars in now). He also thinks that the Paris attacks weren't real. I.....don't know.

In these contexts, "political correctness" means "things I don't like" or "showing basic concern for other humans", rather than anything to do with political correctness.

Young Earth Creationism is a fairly modern thing. People have been debating that the Genesis creation is more of a spiritual allegory about the nature of God and Man's relationship to him since the 1st Century AD, and Augustine of Hippo made a pretty famous argument for it in the 4th Century. Darwin himself even said that his theory was never intended to replace God, and the Catholic Church has promoted "God made evolution " for decades. Young Earh Creationism is a largely new, and largely AMerican movement.

Yes, I'm posting from the UK. I was just outside a mintue ago, and it doesn't look like a facist dystopia. Maybe I missed the jackbooted army marching past sheering about how we have no guns to shoot them with? Seriously though, how does anyone write that seriously and expect other people to do so. I thought the ""America is the only free country, the rest are socialist hellholes" was a joke to poke fun at types, not what someone actually thinks.

EL BROMANCE posted:The UK is really dense and if you live in a city centre like I do, a driving license isn't quite so common even when you grow older. The trains/buses aren't awful even if I complain about them a ton, and I can walk to most places I want to go to. Cars, permits, tax, fuel all expensive and the current climate in my city is super poor wages in skilled jobs and pretty high cost of living so a lot of people see it as an unnecessary expense. We don't do drivers ed in schools etc either and it's not pushed as being so necessary here. I probably should've applied for a provisional license just for ID but I genuinely never need it. I look my age, sadly enough. On the off chance I get carded I tell them I don't carry ID and all is fine as they realise I'm not 17 (alcohol is 18 here, not 21) and just double checking. The provisional is £50, if you don't lose it, that's a one off payment that's valid for ten years, probably longer if you don't intend to drive, sincer carders only care about the DOB on it. It's worth the cost, and stops you from being the guy who stopped your mates getting into somewhere.

Don't you know that whenever a reboot/sequel/remake happens, all existing copies of the original are rounded up and destroyed? So when the new Ghostbusters comes out, the feminists will send out a beam erasing every copy of Ghostbusters 1 and 2 from every VHS, Laserdisc, DVD, Blu-Ray in existance, then they pass a law saying that you can't talk about the original, or you get sent to a gulag. Like how when the 2009 Star Trek came out, the original series was memory holed and removed from pop cultur-hang on, the thought police are knocking! Seriously though, if its bad, everyone will forget about it in a year or two, aside from jokes about how bad it was compared to the originals. I'm hoping it's good (and they'll give it a less confusing title).

"Use cannabis instead of antibotics"? I'm not sure the writer knows that antibotics are. "Oh no, I fell on a rusty saw and got a deep cut, let me just it better" And with the TV one, why do they always assume people have the news on 24/7? Most people watch entertainment on TV, and only put the news on every so often, or just read it online.

This neckbeard thing is dumb. If your beard looks bad on you, and you have the means to shave, and there's no cultural reason not to, shave it. You'll feel better and less itchy. Aside from that, go with the rule of 'don't be a dick to other people'. There, simple.

The unicorn metioned in the Bible is clearly a metaphor. It's something of a transliteration, since the Hebrew word is 'Re'em', which was a legendy one horned wild beast from Jewish folklore - unicorn is the closest concept in English. That fuzzy rhino is adorable. And in the Old Testament, the two greatest commandments from the Law of Moses are "Thou shalt love the Lord thy God with all thy heart, and with all thy soul, and with all thy mind" and 'Thou shalt love thy neighbour as thyself', which Jesus quotes. And in the books of the Prophets, one of the reasons God is angry at the Isrealites and sends them into exile is because for their lack of love and kindness to each other.

The Green Party in the UK used to be a decent local government/protest vote, but then Natalie Bennett became leader, and it became a mess. Not only did they decide that someone who was born in Australia and lived there until she was 33 (and still has a strong accent) would be someone the British public would be likely to pick as thier head of state, but she gave some very rambling and incoherent speeches during the 2015 general election. Then she ran on a series of bizzare policies which didn't effect the average voter, like banning bullfighting and keeping apes as pets, or things that are really against the public mood, like unbanning terrorist groups, nationalising football companies, scrapping road buliding, and turning army bases into wildlife sanctuaries. The most awakard moment was when asked about how any of her ideas would be funded was to stop talking and leave long moments of silence, coughing and mumbling. The only reason they weren't the worst (non-satirical) party running in the last British General Election was because UKIP and Nigel 'please pay attention to me and my casual racism' Farage took up so much media attention. What is it with Green Parties being a bit....odd?
