State of play report for WoL

Last night, Sebmojo asked me back to the hollowed halls of WoL and we played on the CW for team Laos, which is a team in India. I haven't played on the CW in so long time I didn't recognise any of the maps, even though i pressed 'B'! One was a lumpy one and one was a one with some buildings and guns which went BOOM a lot to shoot invisible spaceships and not the enemies spaceships which is dumb. I accidentally took a UAC Jager in my first deck which got broke by the enemies, so I replaced it with a Thunderbolt in the second match. Now i had three Thunderbolts, which is a lot of Thunderbolts. I tried to think of a joke involving a Zeus, but I didn't. Despite being a tear 4 in Inner Circle Robots we won both matches against the shiny hordes of Timberpuppies and Cheetos. There was some brawling, and my KDR went up a whole little. I became rank 4 and got a Gazelle Dropping ornament, which I think is yucky..

We've got a semi-regular Thursday night robutt shooting slosh-op here in Oceania, and if it will take us out of the group queue it would probably be a whole bunch more satisfying (and quicker to get a drat match!) . They may actually be worse than nothing, since they give the illusion of dealing damage. Misled players may end up firing machine guns between alphas, pissing their ineffectual damage over the front of an enemy mech, instead of torso twisting.

Do Urbies count as joke builds by default? Inspired by the Goon AtlasUrbie vid, I have finally taken one of mine out for a couple of nights. I guess my 260L (180xl, 3xML, LPL, 2xMG) should really replace the MGS with DHS, or even a standard engine, but he seems to be having more success as back-biting can-opener than my ravens ever did, one match getting 4 kills - three of them solo . The effect of the MGs is probably all in my head, but he'd feel naked without them.

A good reason to is if it puts your weapon choices into a closer time sync. But bear in mind Cooldown means they still fire hot, but you can refire sooner, potentially increasing your heat accumulation. Range increases are percentage based so affect longer range weapons more.

Kcg-000 comes with ferro-fibrous by default which takes up slots, same as endo, so having both will cramp your build. While ferro does make armour lighter ( and not much else, not stronger or smaller) Endo is always a better enhancement, so you'll have to pay to remove ferro at some point to free up the slots you need for endo.

A lot of kcg builds work on multiple chassis. The 000 is the highest rated kcg on metamechs and wields 4uac like a boss, so don't sweat the buyer's remorse.

Broke 1000 damage for the first time (took me forever because crappy old-man reflexes, bad decision making skills under pressure and general inebriation). Tier 3 King Crab, scuttling across the river into a bunch of reds and then just shooting at them as they showed their faces around the buildings. A bit of co-ordination and they would have taken me out in seconds, but thankfully they all just decided to back off after the first approach, baring their soft robutts to my ceaseless dakka. The last two kills could have ended me with a shot to my CT, but it was one of those magical times when pubby crappiness couldn't overcome my drunken glory. At least until some fucker with a clue noticed my searing red midriff, and then it was crabmeat time, again.

I am mildly disappointed that 4x4 is limited to mediums and lighter. I can see how they want it to play out ('a fast paced game of information warfare') but they missed a trick not sizing it by team weight. That way it would allow a regular group to lance up and kill robots in a manner befitting their personal robot-killing preferences, as opposed to the murder of streakcrows we'll probably get.

Having resisted giving pgi money for almost a year, I am tempted to get the black widow and blow some of my 40 million c-bucks on a couple of others to elite.

Are any of the locust packs/hero worth getting if I'm going to make bad life choices? I am a terrible light pilot, but they are completely annoying when I face them in assaults, which seems fun, and I wouldn't want to miss out on any goon full-locust drops that miraculously occurred in my time zone.

Used the free gift premium time to play a few 1v1 matches in the 'Steiner Coliseum'.

It's a lot more fun that the standard re-purposed battle grounds, as there's no place to really hide and the various, closely built objects and levels stop it from degenerating into another circling brawl, though the 'run away firing' tactic as an Urbie means you run into stuff a hell of a lot.

I got my six 'top score in the team' points for the current tournament in a 4xAC2 2xUAC5 King Crab. You can even do it with a standard engine if you don't mind traveling at 46kph.

I didn't think dying or opponent level had much to do with it. I always thought it was just win/lose then your match score applied to a scale. So if your W/L ratio is at all positive then you should be going up.

(They may have changed it since then, and of course, the probability of :pgi: not being entirely upfront rapidly approaches 1 over time - perhaps there's something in the range distribution affected by the opposition)
